Dan Mullen thread (merged)

It’s not mediocrity to win 9 games 4 times at a school where it had only been done 5 times in the history of the program before.

Want to know what mediocrity is? Only making the playoffs 5 times out of 11 years and winning a SB only because the opposing QB threw 2 pick 6s.

Ok. We can play that game if you want? In his 6 years at Tampa Gruden has half of their division titles (3 of 6) ever. 4 of their 6 playoff wins ever. Their only road playoff win. Their only conference, and super bowl win.

Glad you’re willing to accept mediocrity.

Most of us are tired of moral victories.

That’s all Mullen is.

“He almost beat Bama”

“Imagine if Mullen had UT’s resources?”

Excuses.

OH so Gruden has been so good in CF right?? Or the fact that he was barely above .500.

You guys are f****** ridiculous. If you don't think Mullen has been impressive or flat out good then I'm so glad you guys are not the AD. Stop using his last game against the #1 team as a measuring stick.

Ok? Mullen is UNDER .500 in the SEC! I am not impressed by that.

All these guys hating on Mullen are the ones who think hiring a guy that hasn't coached in over a decade at any level is a good idea because he is an ESPN star. MSU is no better than Vandy and yet Mullen has done much better that Franklin has in the SEC. Mullen should be the first candidate.

Franklin was 2 games under .500 in the SEC. Mullen is 6 games under .500. Not sure how that is better?

No thanks. Look at his record. He always loads up on out of conference cream puffs. In the previous eight seasons he finished second in the West once(2014), fifth five times, and fourth two times. Not to mention never beating Saban. Had losing records twice.

Don't understand the love for Mullen who tried to get the Miami job twice and couldn't even get an interview for the Penn State job. Better than Butch and better than Dooley. Guess our expectations have fallen to slobber over a middle of the road Coach like Mullen.

Lets say we do hire him. How much better would his SEC record be here? In 9 years if he is a.500 SEC coach. You going to say well at least we didn't give Gruden a chance?

But you're impressed with Gruden? Have you even looked at Mullen's track record as an assistant? He is under. 500 in the toughest division of cfb at MSU. Honestly, I don't think Saban could do much better there but wait you probably don't want Saban because he lost to Clemson in the NC.

If Mullen is such a great candidate why isn't he #1 on Florida's list?
His former AD is there.
Word has it he was not very well liked when he was OC at Florida and many say he is a pain to work for.
His recruiting is sub par.
Not really a glaring list of recomendations.
Do we really want to go that route?

Frankin coached in the weaker East. Franklin's record against SEC East (8-9) significantly worse than Mullen's 15-6 record vs East. I do agree that they are comparable level coaches, and that either would represent an upgrade over what we have suffered through the last decade.

He turned them down before.

His recruiting has been subpar you say? Well, he's done a hell of a job with those recruits.

Mullen is the best get-able coach we could hope to hire. He's won in the west, he has a winning record against the east, and he's done it with a team that's marginally more talented than Vandy. He is an absolute home run hire and it's amazing that a lot of our fan base doesn't realize that.

Exactly. They’ve had multiple occasions to hire him as their head coach. But some of our fans think he’s the second coming of Phillip Fulmer

The problem with our fanbase is, that they are so infatuated with Gruden. We could hire belichick, and our fans would be pissed.

There are so many threads I'm not sure what's brought up. I was wondering why the big media outlets are pushing Mullen so hard. What has he accomplished that makes him a sure thing in their eyes?
His conference record leaves alot to be desired at best. I believe there are better candidates out there than him.
