Da Reds thread

Just a random thought, how many more aging cardinals can we possibly sign? In this case I like the Schumaker signing, but srsly Walt, wtf mayne?

Signing what constitutes as nothing more than a career bench player to 2yrs/5mil seems quite suspect considering the Reds seemingly "tight" financial situation.

In terms of Ryan Hanigan, I like they guy but not sure what kind of trade value he has. I can't see anyone trading for him to be their primary starting catcher so that would seem to limit what he could hall.

I will not be surprised if Phillips, Hanigan, Bailey, and Chapman are traded. Phillips is the obvious one but their aren't many teams that can afford that contract. My first call would be to the Dodgers because I am still high on Matt Kemp. If we could package Phillips, Bailey, and Chapman for him I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Should be a great offseason.

Winter Meetings will be here soon and things should start to pickup. Dec. 9-12.

I tend to agree on your potential trade bait and hope there is some serious action to shake it up and fit the roster more to Price's liking.

I probably think more of Skip than you do. Consummate pro that stays focused and is good in the clubhouse. Gives solid starts and PH'ing. He's good at working the count. May be a little rich on the contract, but you know what you are getting and he is an upgrade over the production they have been getting from the utility role.

Looking forward to the meetings as well.

Price took Parra like a prized pupil and remade his career. Not only picked up an excellent slider and regained velocity on his FB, but learned how to pitch well out of the pen. He has a motion that should hold up well. Love this signing.

He certainly gave us a dependable lefty last season with marshall virtually being a no show all last year.

Just saw on the reds app that hanigan is being traded to the rays in a potential 3 team deal. No word on who is involved or how many pieces of gum we will get in return.

glad to see hatcher was retained. he's awesome. makes me remember the 90 team.

I agree he and berry were the two I really wanted to stick around the most. Sounds like berry will stay in the organization even though he declined to coach this season.

So Cano is meeting with Seattle out there - $230-240 M rumored on the table. If that happens BP could be back in the discussion, or else WJ has already moved on since NYY balked at the price the first go around. Will be interesting to see.

cano gone. if they were ever gonna move phillips now is the time. does anybody know if the cuban defector 2nd baseman signed with anybody.

BP at Redsfest and it sounded like there was some productive discussions behind the scenes with Bob, Walt and BP. Hope so regardless of what happens. If he stays the 2 hole is covered and he has Skip to give him some needed rest to keep him fresh, providing they go get that RH bat. Pretty clear that Billy will be in CF on Day 1 unless they luck up with Choo, which isn't looking good after the Ellsbury deal (Boras client). Skip and Heisey (if retained) can sub in CF. Cabrera now with the Yanks as well, so the Yanks will probably go with a less expensive option at second.

Behind the scenes it sounds like Leake is getting serious with his stamina issues. Has gained 10 to 193 lbs. Wants to hit 200 and judge how he handles it. Working out with weights and getting in better condition while eating more. Remember getting skewered by the JPArencibia poster on here a couple of years ago for suggesting both he and Homer died out in the 6th/7th inning because their lower bodies were not strong enough along with their overall stamina to sustain. Homer fixed it over a year ago and now Mike is giving it a good shot. Funny how that works sometimes. lol. Wish Tubs Broxton and Cueto would get the message in the other direction - lose the pork and get in shape.
