Da Reds thread

Watched the game on the dish. Both starting pitchers were outstanding. Belisle looked like a pitcher that could win 12-15 games.
i could see 10-12 but 15 might be a bit much. although if he pitches like he has in his first two starts he might get to 14 or 15.

Micah Owings is going to be an ace quality starter for the D'Backs.
Hamilton struck out and grounded out in his first two at-bats against Owings.

"I was like, 'What in the world is he throwing? I can't hit that,'" Hamilton said.

I didnt get to see the game but it sounds like that guy has some pretty nasty stuff.

Belisle and Bray are our x-factors on the pitching staff this year. Belisle needs to take over the 3rd spot in the rotation. Bray needs to take over the closer role. He may not be a long term solution, but we got him in hopes that he could eventually take it over. Krivsky has done decent work with the team so far, surely the dreadful Kearns trade has to produce SOME dividends.

If Belisle continues to pitch the way he has, he will be an All-Star. It is only two starts, but his WHIP is sub 1, his ERA is 1.50, he has only walked 2 batters to 9 strikeouts. If you see that K to BB ratio stay high, he will have a stellar season.

He is going to need to be able to go more than 6 innings at some point or another though.

Why is the Kearns trade dreadful? Regardless of what the Reds got in return, they unloaded two overrated players that they would have had to resign soon. The money they would have spent on Kearns and Lopez is much better spent on other things.

i halfway agree with this, but if the reds knew exactly what they would get out of the guys they got, no way they make this trade.

Hamilton has had 9 at bats and 2 homeruns

Griffey's had 28 AB and has 0

Beginner luck or something special?

Wow, I guess I am a Jr. defender to the very end, but his wrist has cost him.

Also, the Reds should at least come away with 11 or 12 wins out of their first 20. I think that would be a wonderful start to the season.

The D'Backs are loaded with young talent.

Agreed 100%. They could be formidable in a few years. Brandon Webb and Owings will be a solid duo. Stephen Drew hasn't had a great year, but he should be good along with Carlos Quentin.

Stats of the Starting Pitchers in the minors for the reds
Louisville IP 40 H 30 BB 15 SO 31 ERA 2.70 WHIP 1.13
Chattanooga IP 30.2 H 26 BB 13 SO 25 ERA 1.76 WHIP 1.27
Sarasota IP 32 H 32 BB 12 SO 12 ERA 2.81 WHIP 1.37
Dayton IP 20 H 16 BB 4 SO 22 ERA 1.35 WHIP 1.00
System Totals IP 122.2 H 104 BB 44 SO 90 ERA 2.20 Whip 1.21
Sorry that looks like crap. If you can manage to read it you will reallize how good of stats that all the Starting pitchers have had.

Look at these pitching stats for the teams in the minors. These stats were from this season up until today. Every game is included except todays game for Sarasota which Sarasot won 3-1. so the stats would be even better.

Does any one else think the reds could win the division just because the rest of the division is just as bad as the reds?

Certainly.

We'll really see where everyone stands when the weather warms up and the balls start flying through the air at a faster rate. If your pitching is getting lit up now, you're in pretty bad shape.

yeah, when your system is averaging a 1.21 WHIP and a 2 to 1 K to BB ratio, you gotta like how things are looking.

Milwaukee and St. Louis will both have to underachieve. I think both of those teams are appreciably better than the Reds.
Think of it. If Hamilton does as good as i think he will you can put him in center field for good at the All Star Break. Then you could trade Freel and Hatte for some good relief pitching (good, not what they got in the trade last year). Call up Votto, put him at first. Call up Livingston, put him in the bullpen and Call up Bailey and let him take Miltons spot in the rotation. I think if the season happened like that we could possibly make a run for the division.

Scott Hatteberg wouldn't fetch a broken bat in a trade, let alone a quality reliever.

Anytime a team's best case scenario includes the words "call up" three times, I don't like their chances of winning a division.

they were much better last year though, and we made a run at it.
The Reds were only in the race last year because the Cardinals tanked in September. Everyone seems to be forgetting Cincinnati finished with a losing record last year, with their top two starting pitchers having career years.

That should trouble all Cincy fans let alone that Eric Milton is still on the staff.........

Milton a long reliever, perhaps.......

Nice job making up a five run deficit against Zambrano. I'm watching Lou's postgame press conference. He's killing his team. It might be a long year in Chicago.
