Da Reds thread

Observations from the weekend: 1. This team has a very wide range of possibilities. They could win 90 or lose that same number. 2. The pitching isn't this team's biggest weakness. Their outfield defense is absolutely abominable. 3. Edwin Encarnacion is the best all around player on the team. It's not really close. 4. Not a bad first week. They were able to win two series from division foes with Brandon Phillips and David Ross both struggling mightily.

ross was beyond horrible. i wonder how long freel will be able to hold off hamilton in center.

Hopefully, not long. If Ryan Freel gets 500 at bats, the Reds will finish below .500.

as much as i like freel, i would rather him continue in the role he has played to this point in his career. hamilton will have a huge year if he takes it over soon.

What do you guys think about Joey Votto? Do you think he will take the 1B spot this year? If he plays like he should i think he could be starting by the end of the summer.

i don't think so. he strikes out quite a bit. i saw him playing for the lookouts last year he is a hell of a prospect though. we have hatty and conine there, unless we tank i don't think you'll see him up till the end of the season.

I still think he will get playing time in the bigs this year. he might not be starting but he deff. could be. hatty is a serviceble 1b right now and conine is a good guy to play when someone needs a rest and need a pinch hitter, but both of them are getting up there in age and Votto has the potential to be a .275-.295 guy with some really good pop in his bat.

.295 might be a little high. make that .270-280

that is ture especially conine he is 40 or so, but he can still hit the ball. i think they will leave him down in the minors unless somebody gets hurt, mainly so he can get at bats and practice. on the other hand if we are out of it at the break there will be alot of moves and alot of young guys coming up.

yea its really impossible to tell what will happen with these guys.

Votto will be called up at roster expansion, he probably won't be ready for the show for one more year though.

i agree with him being a .270-.280 guy though. then again, with lineup protection and the like, those numbers could go up, as could his power numbers. the kid can kill the ball.
