Well, I have pretty much written off this team making it to .500. This season has been an utter disappointment. Sure we have had some injury setbacks, but what other team did not also share that same sentiment? I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I still feel that this team can't move to the next level with Dusty at the helm. This team has been so inconsistent this season and that responsibility ultimately lies on the manager of the club. He clearly can't motivate and has continually proven he is bad at decision making in terms of basic management of the game. I am not trying to elevate myself from the couch to comparisons of a guy who knows more than I will ever know about the game, but he has left me this season questioning that statement this season.
This team will win 2 games and then go out and drop the next 3. Hell, how long was it before we could win back to back games? I do think our schedule was pretty brutal. But we still should have been better then what will be the end result. I still watch every game that is on the tube and I still wear reds gear several days a week, but there is not much to be proud of this year. Sure, it is easy to critique Stubbs and his infinite number of stirkeouts and inability to protect with 2 strikes, but when does a manager finally become accountable for allowing that to happen over and over? I love our team and feel they could have been somewhat close to what we had last year even with the injuries. Again, I am no expert, but this has been an extremely trying season to watch. I can only hope that Dusty will be let go and we can actually get someone in here to get these youngsters straightened out. Sorry to sound like a eulogy, but this is a season that felt like a funeral from July on. Bottom line is I am not trying to bash these guys, but I only hope some new form of motivation can revive this team to a higher level come next year. I like who we have and know they are capable of more than what they have shown. We are better than this.
