Cynicism and negativity on

Some view a negative online presence as a position of authority, or wisdom. As such, some negative posters view themselves as the cool table in the cafeteria.

I've certainly had my share of negative posts - mainly the obvious stuff - but what people are posting on here about an OC nobody even knew a week ago is ridiculous.

One can either agree with someone's opinion or disagree with it. 95% of what is posted on VN is opinion, and nobody has the right to tell someone that their opinion is wrong. Agree, disagree and move on.

If no one has a right to tell anyone else that their opinion is wrong then wouldn't that mean that we have to only agree and move on? Wouldn't disagreement pretty much mean that they've said someone else is wrong?

Yeah. It's got crazy on here with the bs. Some of the fans on here are not only negative, but dilusional in the sense they act as if they have a button that will automatically fire Butch if they press it. It's funny, sad, and has gotten very old.

It's really not a complicated issue.

The average sports red always has a coach lurking somewhere within. It comes after years of playing Monday Morning Quarterback (man, I knew was right about that call!). Couple this with the extreme nature of an SEC dong (see: Pinson, Ala or Harvey Updyke) and you have a recipe for enraged behavior over any decision that does not does not fit into the plumber-turned-athletic director's worldview.

Simple.

99% of threads on VN devolve into a pissing match.
And in 99.9 percent of those threads the one who posts the best one liner or gif will win the "like" contest. :)

VolNation. Why is it always the same posters that are always cynical and negative regarding anything TN. Does it make the anonymous feel important? Are they that arrogant to think they know more than the people in charge? Do they just like the Jerry Springer atmosphere on here? Does it give them the chance at a witty retort? What is it? I know its a forum but some of the stuff on here is embarrassing.

Because volnation is full of members from grudens group the FFCA

I want to come on here and celebrate this awesome class we just pulled, but it seems everyone wants to fight and cry over the OC hire.

Maybe you should go to the recruiting forum then. Mostly positive there. This forum is where the bs hits the fan and not for the faint of heart.

Oh....a metric I forgot to add on this:

The former high school coach/forum insider? This one is virtually bullet-proof on the subject of program decisions. And he'll always have a cadre of dullards who follow his words on a forum like they were handed down from Moses.

If he's decided to trash a hire or a player....you might as well give up on reasonable dialogue over the issue until said coach or player proves his worth on game day.

Pretty much. The Uncle Ricos of the world weigh in with their expert opinions in between filling short orders at your local fash food establishment.

I'll attempt an honest, simple answer: Some folks are relentlessly negative, others unwaveringly positive; most fall somewhere in between. It's the way of the world, is nothing new and shouldn't surprise nor annoy anyone. If you look at any other sports forum, you'll see exactly the same thing except it's usually worse.

The real trouble begins when some people feel compelled to opine on -- and (mis)judge -- others' heartfelt opinions instead of the actual points of contention, ascribing motives that probably don't exist and sowing the seeds of discord...which inevitably leads to the "Jerry Springer" atmosphere that pops up in some threads. Most everyone wants to have a voice, but folks need to know when to leave well enough alone.

Very well stated.

Coach DeBord out coached and beat Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong's Gators...said no Tennessee coach ever :dunno:

I'm just not sure losing to Florida for a decade is something I want to relive by bringing up a bowl game from 2008 that didn't even involve the Vols.

Well the thread was about people being cynical and negative. Was this supposed to be about a certain individual or all cynical and negative individuals?

GO VOLS!

I was referring to my response being directed at a certain individual.
