Cutcliffe is our new man.

You all have lost your minds. He looked like a damn good coach because someone recruited for him and he had NFL talent to work with. He doesn't recruit, he doesn't have any Mannings, and he will bring us to the cellar with his career.

He led Eli Manning to a Music City Bowl. Wow, what a stellar career he has really put together as a HC.

If he didn't have UT ties, you all would laugh at this clown.

There is never a reason to steal a 60 year old coach from Duke.

Anybody think he'd try to transfer BACK to UT? Seems we're about to have a lot of "Everything old is new again" around here......

Peyton has forgotten more than most of us will ever know about football. QB's and young recruits would bust the gates down to even talk to him and he will still be young enought to fire a rocket pass to teach a young QB how to throw and read defenses. He is a student of the game and has been around to know how to coach.

Have you seen an OC call a play in the past 10 yrs. at Indy??? The coach is on the field!

I agree. THEY ARE BEING CONSERVATIVE! Gee like all the people in our great state don't know anything about years chalk full of that crap. CUT is no better than KIPPY and neither of them are big enough to handle the HC position here.

WE NEED THE "IT" FACTOR.

We aren't having to replace Lame Kiffin, we're having to replace MONTE. That's why alot of the recruits started looking here and we need someone with fire like the last staff. KYLE W from UTAH would also be a great fit and would come if we offered. Cutcliffe will be ran out of town next year.

The VOL faithfull can't go through 2-3 more years of rebuilding. I understand that they are afraid but we need results now and if we get the RIGHT guy in here and keep our staff together then the recruiting class stays intact.

PLEASE not CUTCLIFFE!!!!!

We're all old enough to remember his play calling cost us an SEC title in 2007.

Yeah you're right. If he hadn't told Ainge to throw it to the wide open LSU cornerback on the five yard out route, we would have won that game. Damn you Coach Cutt.

what happend to him when eli left ole miss??? just saying

It was Ole Miss, how did Coach O (who some people are saying would be a better choice than Cutcliffe) do there?

He is still the ONLY coach in ole miss history to take them to a bowl game in 4 of his first 5 seasons.

That's the problem yes he created some great quarterbacks but how did those qb's get there? He can't recruit and most people outside of Tennessee don't have a clue who he is so while you think he's great and did so well in the 90s none of the kids we need to play for us give a crap

Oh and speaking of a recruiting class that is on the brink of total collapse, what do you think this hire will do to it?[/QUOTE]

I think kids will see that he is back at a major program and line up to play for him just as they did . Especially when they see that the thing lane said he was going to do ...get them to the NFL ...has already been done by coach cutt ...time and time again.

He made it at Ole Miss ...5 winning seasons capped off by a 10-3 record ...and then after a major graduation fell to 4-7. The AD tried to force him to fire his coaches , he refused and was fired. This was the Oe Miss of then ...not now ...so that string of wins was impressive

Duke was 6-45 in over 4 years ... he won ony 4 games in two years ...but beat an acc team for the 1st time in 25 years and beat an SEC school and lost several heartbreakers againt top opponents. vitually every offensive record at ole miss and ut is held by cutts O's.

I totally agree....Cut is not even a average coach...like you said if he didn't have the ties to UT they would all laugh.....Cut can't recruit either...

And he has the personality of a brick. Couldn't hire a more boring, uninspiring coaching prospect...unless they tried to bring Fulmer back. There is a reason no one is beating down Fulmer's door...and neither are the USC's of the world calling Cutcliffe about an opening....Just us. Only our idiots want them.

If Cutt is the choice, look for an average of 85,000 per game. :mf_surrender:

Anybody but Cutt - :banghead2:

Let's see what Kippy could do with the resources we have.

You know. I might be happy to have boring now. It's like coming home to a wife of 15 years. Is she as attractive as a 20 year old bomb shell? Probably not but I don't have to worry about her being home when I get there. Cut is TN through and through. He will give his all. I don't know that our last little boy did that. He sure didn't give all this week! Maybe young and energetic assistants could help in recruiting.

I just pray they're are not "settling" with this choice. To hell with this recruiting weekend...take our time and see what happens.

I have decided to ignore his time at Duke and focus on his time at Ole Miss. I feel his time at Ole Miss is a more representative of what he will bring to Tennessee due to both schools playing in the same conference, having similar admission standards, and recruiting the same players.

Recruiting

Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program. So how did it go for David during his time at Ole Miss? Not very well.
Note: I am sorry but Rivals started in 2002, so that is the farthest back I am able to go.

2002 – 33rd Nationally, 10th in the SEC
2003 – 38th Nationally, 9th in the SEC
2004 – 30th Nationally, 8th in the SEC

Offense

David Cutcliffe is known for his ability to develop young QBs. He coached both Peyton and Eli Manning. Notice that David never had offense ranked in the Top 20.
Note: Once again, my records do not go back far enough, so I am missing 1999.

2000 – 74th Nationally, 8th in the SEC
2001 – 37th Nationally, 4th in the SEC
2002 – 76th Nationally, 5th in the SEC
2003 – 22nd Nationally, 1st in the SEC
2004 – 77th Nationally, 8th in the SEC

Defense

Defense wins championships, offense wins games. Well, it’s probably for the best that Cutcliffe never made it to any championship game, because he never had a defense that could win them.

2000 – 59th Nationally, 10th in the SEC
2001 – 62nd Nationally, 9th in the SEC
2002 – 41st Nationally, 8th in the SEC
2003 – 59th Nationally, 9th in the SEC
2004 – 66th Nationally, 9th in the SEC

Performance

Really, when it comes down to it, W’s and L’s is all that really matters. How did David do at Ole Miss? Well his average season was 7-5. Yep, you read that correctly, seven and five.

Okay, so how did he do against Tennessee’s Rivals? Cutcliffe was actually 4-4 against Florida and Alabama while at Ole Miss.

How about that In-conference record? Cutcliffe was an unimpressive 2 games over .500. Bringing home a 25-23 record in-conference.

Number of 10+ win seasons - 1
Number of SEC West Titles – 1 (Tied)
Number of Outright SEC West Titles – 0
Appearances in the SEC Championship Game – 0
SEC Championships – 0
Appearances in a BCS Bowl – 0
BCS Bowl wins – 0
Appearances in a National Championship – 0
National Championships – 0

That is right Ladies and Gentleman. David Cutcliffe has never been to a championship game at any level. Even thought Cutcliffe had a future Super Bowl winning QB at Ole Miss, he never competed for a championship. He would be an incredibly unimpressive hire for the once proud Tennessee Volunteer Football program.

I know some of you may sit there and say that Cutcliffe will bring you some stability, but at what cost? How much longer can this program sit around clinging to the 1998 National Championship? Are we destined to be like the Georgia fans, still reminiscing about 1980 and Hershel Walker? Are we destined to be like the Notre Dame program that talks about how many championships they won, when players will wore leather helmets? Our two biggest rivals have won 5 SEC Titles and 3 National Titles since our last one and they show no signs of stopping.

I will put this bluntly, this would be a disaster of a hire for the once respected Tennessee Football program.

Son, nobody blames you for drinking all day...it's been that kind of day. But everybody knows that drinking and starting new threads is never a good idea...lol

I know there are a ton of rumors and suspicions out there. However, the basic chain of evens points to MH crossing off every name on his list and finding no one left other than Cutcliffe. Hamilton knows his job is on the line here. He wouldn't make Cut the coach unless it was an absolute necessity. That tells me he knows this will cost him his job.

I agree. You will not see me over there on the hill as long as he is our coach. I cannot support stale play calling. Cut does have a pretty stellar record: 53-44. Now this is the kinda coach I can see staying here for a long time.

To me the difference is with Cut it's the same old offence. With Kippy maybe Chaney is OC and we get something different then add recruiters and a good DC.
