Cutcliffe is our new man.

Peyton has forgotten more than most of us will ever know about football. QB's and young recruits would bust the gates down to even talk to him and he will still be young enought to fire a rocket pass to teach a young QB how to throw and read defenses. He is a student of the game and has been around to know how to coach.

Have you seen an OC call a play in the past 10 yrs. at Indy??? The coach is on the field!

I agree...kids will line up and fight in that line to play for him.

He sure as hell knows just as much about football as Lame does!!!

The OP captures the sinking pit that has been my stomach the last few hours. It's the realization that we have sunk so low as a program that we can't even get an interview with coaches from TCU, Utah, and Boise anymore, much less lure away a DC from Texas or Air Force. Welcome to the lower tier of the SEC.

Sounds like footsteps...and a lot of them.

I live outside of Oxford, MS and my wife is an Ole Miss Alum. We have season tickets to the Ole Miss games and your post is Dead On. Cutcliffe runs a conservative offense to the point of being vanilla. With Eli he got lucky in having some good players come into the program because of Eli. After Eli the the program was dead in the water. We got to the point we (being) the fans could call the play before the snap of the ball.

I sense Cutcliffe will be UT's Mike Shula and that Hamilton and the coaches that left and the ones that are turning us down, think that the NCAA is going to come down on us hard. Cutcliffe will not be expected to win, but just run a clean program the next 3-4 years. Then if we have any money availabe
le we will go after the "splash" hire.

I totally agree....Cut is not even a average coach...like you said if he didn't have the ties to UT they would all laugh.....Cut can't recruit either...

Ridiculous

Not only did he coach the Mannings
he coaches Shuler , Tee Martin , and Erik Ainge
He made Heath look like a #1 NFL pick , helped Martin break NCAA records and win a national title , and brought Ainge out of the gutter and made him a nationally ranked QB and late round NFL pick

And what about alllll of the receivers and running backs and offensive linemen . Many of whom were under talented but became all americans and got a shot in the NFL ...Who exactly recruited them and who do you think they told them to come play for ? Why did Archie PICK Cutliffe to coach both of his boys ? Does the massive turn around from 05 to 06 in the entire offense not mean anything to you in terms of indicating coaching abilty .

Granted the guy needs to upgrade his staff and bring in a talented D coach . Really though ...Cutcliffe if an excellent offensive coach / QB coach and a strict disciple guy . He has sent more kids to the NFL than Kiffin can imagine ...whether the player deserved to go to the NFL or not .

I don't feel good about taking an entire coaching staff, regardless of which school it comes from. I won't feel good about the staff if that happens.

We will not go after a splash hire because Fulmer will be the AD. We will go after another "keep it in the family hire". This whole thing is just one big train wreck.

If this goes down, and all signs indicate it will, I PRAY that he will try to keep Lance Thompson as DC, or in some capacity. Keeping Garza would be a good idea too, with his Texas connections. I think Kippy stays, which should help the offense not become too stale and predictable. Maybe try to bring in Rodney Garner too. Hopefully, there will be someone on this staff capable of taking the reins long term in 3-4 years too. That's very key also, or we'll be repeating this process again.

Please chill. This is a setback, but UT won't stay down forever. We're just going to have to be cheering for hustle and character for a while instead of wins.

Very true, but Kippy would only be interim for a season. Cut isn't leaving Duke for a season, it's at least 3 years with this guy.

That's why you give Kippy a chance.
