Cut to Duke?

If Trooper Taylor is ever promoted to offensive coordinator, I'll immediately have two season tickets for sale.

We could sell them as 2 and 2, b/c mine would be on the block also, along with the paper bag I just vomited in thinking about the possibility.

I would be a happy camper if Cut went to Duke or Vandy.

Don't get your hopes up if Cutcliffe leaves. Dave Hooker brought up the possibility of Greg Adkins being promoted up to OC. So there wouldn't be any freshness or new ideas coming in play calling even if Cutty left. :cray:

Borges was good at Auburn only with 3 first round NFL picks in the backfield (Cadillac, Ronnie Brown, Campbell). Without those superstars, he couldn't get it done, which is why Lowder / Tuberville fired him.

I'd like to see "Rut" go but I don't see anyone (except a mid-major give him a HC job). Some Saturday's CDC is as good as anyone in college football, then some Saturday's he's so conversative its hard to watch our Vols. He is so hot and cold w/ his play calling, anyone who disagreed doesn't follow the vols closely. One game we're great (Georgia, Ark, Ky) and then some games we're terrible (Fla, Ala, LSU).

The last couple years our offense has been so night and day, '06 early in the season was great, then we went stone cold, this year it was "on" one game "off" the next. If we promote from within though we'll be in trouble. We don't have any other current assistants ready to be an SEC play-caller.

This year we never threw the ball pass the chains for some unknown reason. The object on offense is to score points, I don't think "Rut" tries to score points, he tries to play the system game too much.

Don't worry no HC job will be his unless he goes to a smaller conference.

Spurrier did OK there. A sharp minded young coach will bite off any opportunity to show his stuff.

The ACC was a basketball conference when Spurrier was there. The following schools were not ACC member in the late 80's: Florida State, Miami, BC, Va Tech. Its a whole lot tougher now.

Is it any truth to the rumor about Bobby Johnson removing himself for consideration from the Duke job?

Looks like Cut is still in the running (I suppose) and Greg Adkins is well on his way to being in line for the potential OC job opening is Cutty leaves.

Don't you bitch about Cut's playcalling all the time?

If he wants to be a HC more power to him. I will wish him well and hopefully he will be successful. He's always going to be ALL VOL to me though.

I have mixed feelings.

I'm not thrilled with Cut, but if he leaves I'm not sure CPF will give the new guy a long leash. Last thing we need is another OC with his hands tied.

i've got mixed feelings as well. we are trying to rebuilding something(or lack there of) right now. if we lose him it'll just be another explaination for our downfall.

Hopefully, he takes the job---UT needs some innovation on offense.

Phil Fulmer will not get an coordinator, offense or defense, with any charisma, that would be a threat to him personally. He will replace Cut (I don't think he will leave) with someone like a Sparky Woods.

Like what exactly? The no huddle... 4 wide set... single back set... shot gun... what exactly?

Cut did as much with this year's talent and limitations as anyone could. Think about it. The WR's were serviceable... his system turned 3 of them into SEC leaders in receptions. Ainge has a good arm, quick release, and intelligence... he's also immobile and extremely injury prone... Yet he was among the SEC leaders in passing and stayed healthy all year.

They don't have a great game breaking RB... yet Foster is on a pace to set the career rushing record at UT.

Just exactly how innovative do you think someone has to be to do better with what UT had this year than they did on O?

I only wish that Chavis had been as "innovative"... UT might have gone to the BCS championship game.

In case you're interested, UT scored 400 pts already this year for the first time since 2001. They've scored the most ppg since 1996... "Innovation" isn't likely to do a whole lot better than that.

I'm going to laugh when our QB development tails off and our shiny new innovative OC is struggling because of lack of QB play. Everyone will be screaming and yelling and not even realize they got exactly what they asked for. Cut is one of the best QB coaches in the country. I know his play calling is not all-world. I would love to see him be strictly a QB coach but its not going to happen.

If Cut leaves... CPF's turnaround effort is probably over. UT would have to just stumble across someone blindly that could bring that kind of ability in as OC.
