Currie Releases Statement

I understand being upset with his first choice. I also understand that brings his judgment and competence into question. I even understand that he was not the most popular hire to begin with.

But that doesn't mean he can't learn quickly from his mistake and make a much better hire, and the good news is, this is still very possible.

I personally am willing to give him a second chance. Firing him now is insane, and we all know Davenport isn't going to do that anyway. She hired him over a much more popular candidate (Blackburn...or at any rate I'm told he was popular).

So we are stuck with Currie. Might as well hope his next choice is a winner.

Hell...it can't be worse than Schiano, can it?

So take a deep breath. We have not lost the coaching search yet. Not by a long shot.

To me this statement reeks of You should shut up and know your place. I’m smarter than you so leave ma alone.” Nowhere is there an apology for the embarrassment he has brought to this program and nowhere does he say that he understands our criticism of his hire. In fact, I read it as him saying he made a great hire(far from it) we should have butted our. He is simply the continuation of a much larger problem that has plagued us for over a decade.

I agree about giving second chances...but I think he screwed up so royally, there is no chance of hiring a decent coach now. No way is any half way decent coach going to walk into this right now. I'm afraid all we have left is to settle for another butch or worse and will be doing this again in 4-5 years, which means we have at least another 7-8 years of being BAD, IF we can make the right hire next go around. Currie screwed this up about as bad as could be. Firing Fulmer has brought some sort of bad curse to this program. We need to figure out how to right the curse and get turning around. Right now and for the foreseeable future, we are the laughing stock of College football. We are less than Vandy right now.

I just hope they put off the renovations and lets focus the next 4-5 years on figuring out how to get this program turned around and competing again. THIS, not the renovations, should be the main focus. Then and only then, lets look at the renovations again.

Am I the only one that thinks Currie looks like a dopehead? I mean seriously, he has that look about him like he has been on a 3 day speeding binge, especially when he came to the podium to announce the firing of Butch Jones. That man has some serious issues!!

Currie needs to be fired yesterday along with Bev but they have to get rid of Haslam for good.

Absolutely! She is his boss, He looked like a monkey with a football yesterday, Haslam is like Jerry Jones - lots of money yet stupid to the bone - our school is being ruined by this group - all of whom have too much control and don't know what they're doing - which at this point, is quite obvious to the world.

My first chance to post since the weekend... How can we believe this guy after all that has gone down this weekend? He said he would pour all his energy into the search, but I read he signed the MOU that day after Butch was fired. So all this BS about vetting and contacting other coaches was just that..BS. That's why he was able to take in the basketball tourney without a care in the world.. What a snake!! I read an article about the "Light going out at Neyland" the other day. It was to the point and had some stuff in there that we won't get past for a long time. This hire will have to be a serious one. To be honest I don't know how a coach could trust anyone in the administration right now. The article stated we fired a hall of fame coach with a championship ring. That will be ringing in every potential hires head for years to come. We need to stop being so cheap and pay up if the program is that important. My Vols football helmet hanging on my cubicle wall is now upside down till this crap gets straightened out because our University of Tennessee is under distress. I hope we can right the ship and rescue our once proud program.... Heaven help us all.

It's pretty clear how this all played out. We were never considering anyone else. An expensive, explosive hire? It was Schiano all along. Peterson, Gruden, Mullen, Leach, Kelly, Frost....all BS. We weren't late to the coaching search dance, we never made the damned trip! Now that everyone has their raise and all the other programs have made their hires, we sit here with slim pickings. No choice but to pick from a coordinator or lower level, up and comer type. Not another dime to support this program until we see commitment....true commitment to doing something real to get this program back where it needs to be. No donations, no season tickets, no merchandise, no nothing until we see results or better yet, a dissociation of the Haslam family from my alma mater and Currie on his way somewhere else. Wont mean a thing to UT, but it will make me feel better. Tired of throwing money at UT only to have them continually and without fail piss in my Cheerios and tell me I have to like it.

short version, to me anyways,:
"you people screwed this up, you need to sit down, shut up and just take what we allow you to have"

whether it be Jones, Currie, BD...i don't understand these people's need to to continue to driver a wedge between the admin and the alumni and fans.

it's mind boggling. and i kept hearing that this was done in an effort to quell any potential lawsuit from GS...and i simply do not care. if that's the case, then we're back to saving money being more important.

everything seems to be more important than anything any of us give a crap about.

that's the message i got anyway...could be just me.:peace2:
