Current UT players address sexual assault controversy

Exactly this. If I'm the plaintiff's lawyer I'm deposing each of these guys as soon as I can and asking what they meant by their comments and why they felt the need to say that people have made mistakes and that they hope the women can find peace.

They are making it worse, not better.

Thanks, but my guess is most of the people who say they are chomping at the bit to fight it tooth and nail are going to come around to the reality of the situation soon and realize that an objective, step back and let's make some good business decisions approach, is what is needed here.

Absolutely.

Commenting on this in front of the camera or print media or anyone with a blog is not " controlling the message" as I read on another comment.

It's opening the story to be rehashed daily and it's all but admitting there have been problems.

I will be absolutely shocked if this thing goes to court.

They have already settled two suits and this one could be a much larger payout but the billable hours on this thing could get astronomical if they fight it to the courtroom.

And even then, they are laying themselves at the mercy of a judge and jury.

Maybe, but I think I see what they are doing. If I understand correctly, the lawsuit is calling the culture into question. Hart, Jones, and now the players are coming out in defense of the culture. The plaintiffs have chosen at least initially to try this case in the court of public opinion throwing everything but the kitchen sink out there to try to gain leverage. IMO, they are trying to force UT into a quick settlement. Why? Because IMO the case is likely weak and they know it.

I agree %100. My take, and I may be out there, is the prosecution put this in the lime light with hammering Peyton Manning with something that happend 20 years ago and when that started to lose some steam, because of the credibility if Shaun King and Jamie Whited came into serious question, they moved straight to the heart Butch Jones. I think it was a very tactical move that got everyone talking and blew the case up to a tremendous level this week. Imo you don't start playing your trump card unless you are trying to get a quick settlement. That's just how I see it.

Silence is for the guilty. Media having full access, players (current and former) speaking out and coming to the defense of their coach, program and school is a good thing. The public for the most part are aware and understand these are young men and place little value on just how polished their verbiage may be, what matters most is their intent and sincerity and that is ringing through loud and clear

That was absolutely controlling the message. There's a HUGE difference in just defense and crisis management. Trust me, this was a great move.

No, because it's going to make the lawsuit that much harder for our legal team.

Do you really think the legal team wasn't aware this was going to happen? We manage the players media interaction before and after practice. Do you think it was an accident it was those players?
Very solid message control and the players did well.

For those of you thinking this is bad I disagree.
Make no mistake that it was no accident that these were the players chosen to allow access to the media. They were prepped and did a fine job. Might they get deposed? Maybe but there's a chance some current players would have gotten deposed anyway. This is called controlling the message and making sure that the "right" players spoke. Very good move by UT defense.

THIS
and I would say they have told the other players if asked just defer to what your 3 team leader have already said.....Because some kids just cannot handle a reporters twisting question. This should be it as far as players go...just tell the reporters etal to refer to the JRM/Dobbs/kamara one time statement

You are confusing two different issues here. From a legal standpoint, and that should be our main focus at this point, UT does not benefit IN THE LEAST from this. It's debatable how much, if any, the benefit is from a PR standpoint, which apparently is the side you are focused on. PR wise, what they said makes those people already in UT's corner feel better about things, does nothing to persuade those that aren't, and gives the negative story just that more legs.

Do people really think these three young men sat in front of the camera of their own accord, without anyone's knowledge? Do you think The University of Tennessee put these guys in front of the camera without consulting their legal team?

Come on really?

It's probably more likely there was a lawyer sitting in the room with them as it was being filmed.

You know who really needs to be speaking...DiPietro. He is leaving the sports department (Hart/coaches/players!!!) to do all the heavy lifting. The message needs to come from the top! He needs to protect the University as a whole and protect the student athletes/students as a whole. While I think the players spoke fine, they shouldn't have had to...

Do you really think that the administration at UT couldn't mishandle something? Really??

t think it's possible that the PR people are the ones pushing for this, not the legal side- and imo, that would be a mistake.
As an attorney, I don't see a single benefit to doing it. But if you can, tell me, maybe I'm missing something. I haven't kept up with it that closely tbh.

Wow.....That comments section.

Right?? Unreal. I honestly couldn't believe that in this day and age people could make $98 per hour sitting at home in front of their computer! And before you ask, hell yes I gave them my email address.

And there was some disgusting rascist stuff too. Really really disappointing.

I guess it is possible that the PR Department are the ones pushing this, but do you really believe that the PR Dept. would do something like this without consulting someone first?

I mean that goes beyond mishandling. It is just downright stupid. Whether we as fans think it was smart or not or see any benefit to it or not is really beside the point. It would take a great act of stupidity on the part of the PR and AD to do this without consulting with legal first. Is it possible?....yes, I guess it is. Is it likely?....I hope not, otherwise there really are some major issues going on at UT. Mainly a severe case of the stupids.

Hard to argue that
