Exactly this. If I'm the plaintiff's lawyer I'm deposing each of these guys as soon as I can and asking what they meant by their comments and why they felt the need to say that people have made mistakes and that they hope the women can find peace.
They are making it worse, not better.
Thanks, but my guess is most of the people who say they are chomping at the bit to fight it tooth and nail are going to come around to the reality of the situation soon and realize that an objective, step back and let's make some good business decisions approach, is what is needed here.
Maybe, but I think I see what they are doing. If I understand correctly, the lawsuit is calling the culture into question. Hart, Jones, and now the players are coming out in defense of the culture. The plaintiffs have chosen at least initially to try this case in the court of public opinion throwing everything but the kitchen sink out there to try to gain leverage. IMO, they are trying to force UT into a quick settlement. Why? Because IMO the case is likely weak and they know it.
Absolutely.
Commenting on this in front of the camera or print media or anyone with a blog is not " controlling the message" as I read on another comment.
It's opening the story to be rehashed daily and it's all but admitting there have been problems.
I will be absolutely shocked if this thing goes to court.
They have already settled two suits and this one could be a much larger payout but the billable hours on this thing could get astronomical if they fight it to the courtroom.
And even then, they are laying themselves at the mercy of a judge and jury.
No, because it's going to make the lawsuit that much harder for our legal team.
For those of you thinking this is bad I disagree.
Make no mistake that it was no accident that these were the players chosen to allow access to the media. They were prepped and did a fine job. Might they get deposed? Maybe but there's a chance some current players would have gotten deposed anyway. This is called controlling the message and making sure that the "right" players spoke. Very good move by UT defense.
Do you really think the legal team wasn't aware this was going to happen? We manage the players media interaction before and after practice. Do you think it was an accident it was those players?
Very solid message control and the players did well.
Do people really think these three young men sat in front of the camera of their own accord, without anyone's knowledge? Do you think The University of Tennessee put these guys in front of the camera without consulting their legal team?
Come on really?
It's probably more likely there was a lawyer sitting in the room with them as it was being filmed.
Wow.....That comments section.
Do you really think that the administration at UT couldn't mishandle something? Really??
t think it's possible that the PR people are the ones pushing for this, not the legal side- and imo, that would be a mistake.
As an attorney, I don't see a single benefit to doing it. But if you can, tell me, maybe I'm missing something. I haven't kept up with it that closely tbh.
Right?? Unreal. I honestly couldn't believe that in this day and age people could make $98 per hour sitting at home in front of their computer! And before you ask, hell yes I gave them my email address.
And there was some disgusting rascist stuff too. Really really disappointing.
I guess it is possible that the PR Department are the ones pushing this, but do you really believe that the PR Dept. would do something like this without consulting someone first?
I mean that goes beyond mishandling. It is just downright stupid. Whether we as fans think it was smart or not or see any benefit to it or not is really beside the point. It would take a great act of stupidity on the part of the PR and AD to do this without consulting with legal first. Is it possible?....yes, I guess it is. Is it likely?....I hope not, otherwise there really are some major issues going on at UT. Mainly a severe case of the stupids.
