We hear a lot about changing the ‘culture’ of the Tennessee football program and that’s referring to the culture of the interior of this football program, but how do we change the culture on the outside of the program, how do we change the culture of the fanbase?

Sure winning would help change the culture and rid our fanbase of some of the ‘negavols’. But what if it needs to improve before we are back on top? What if needs to improve to get back on top?

I think we have a responsibility to believe in this program, this team, and the future of Tennessee football. Of course winning football games takes skill, experience and good coaching, but it also takes a positive outlook and a belief that you can win football games from the fanbase.

I don't think the culture of the fanbase needs to be changed. People see "Negavols" here because we are very insular.

When the rest of the country looks at our fanbase, they see a very passionate group of fans that continues to have high expectations of the program despite having been irrelevant for a long time. Some even go as far to say that we are delusional and need to permanently lower expectations because of how the last 10+ years have gone. If other fans look at us and have attitudes like "I don't see why they get so excited," then we must be doing something right.

The Administration has giving little to believe in the past 10 years or so with how they've handled the firing and hiring of ADs and coaches.

UT has not had "swagger" in over a decade and that is the problem. Take the UF game for example. Gators knew they were the better team before the game even began. Once UT gets that type of confidence back (and fields a team we can compete with) then the football culture will change. OP negavols will continue to exist as long as we suck. We are not even a mediocre program right now and that is frustrating. The fans have done their part supporting this slop for ten years. As soon as we start winning and stop becoming an automatic W for our rivals, then everything else will take care of itself. This Saturday at Jordan hairball would be a nice start!

Not too long ago we started the year 5-0 and the negavols were in full force telling us all how we would fall. After enough injuries it worked out for them.
I’m sure they weren’t happy when we were losing, but they weren’t that happy when we were winning either.

We all handle adversity in our own way. Same goes for success.

I went to the Florida game and yelled my butt off. Also 10 years ago went to Pasadena and did the same thing. Also as a freshman in1990. All different teams with different expectations. In 90 I expect to win. In 08 I hoped to win. In 18 not much expectation.

One thing that definitely won't help is the fans tweeting at players on the team after a bad game. These guys know they need to get better without people they don't know, that have no idea what's going on inside the locker room, inside the program, tweeting at them to call them out. That could have a negative impact on the players, as well as scare off potential players. We definitely don't need to be scaring off prospects

Some of us saw Butch struggling to put together a competent plan each week, and knew that struggling against the likes of Appy State didn't bode well for our games against tougher opponents.

You can call it negativity if you choose to do so, but that doesn't change the fact that starting out 5-0 didn't keep the wheels from coming off, even though you couldn't fathom it happening at the time.

Neither the relentless sunshine pumping nor the constant stream of negativity can resurrect UT football.

We need to support and descent when appropriate. That’s all fans can do. The onus is on Pruitt, his staff, Fulmer and every individual on the team.

Our future (as fas as college football goes) is in their hands.

IMO , not the fans. In worst of times, minimum of 80+K each game regardless of record. Club seats sold out at 20K per season. Fans go, fans pay, fans continue to hope

I will never understand why some of you feel the need to lord over the fan base with your notions on how fans should act. Maybe just maybe fans wouldn’t be critical if the product on the field didn’t stay mired in a perpetual endless cycle of suck. I get it you want the fans to cheer the team on and pat each other on the back even though we lost by 30 points but golly gee we gave it our all. You gloss over the fact that we haven’t been nationally relevant since 2007, more likely 2001, and going to game can cost several hundred dollars. The fans have been patient enough. It is time for AD, coaches, and players to do their part
