Down here in Peru there are about 7 billion political parties (it seems) including single-issue and hyper-local. That's what we need in the US. It allows all kinds of things to be heard but better yet it grinds the national government to a halt when they can't get along.
What has happened during this last decade of turbulence in the federal government here? Local governments have been kicking ass and generally doing what's right for their people.
