Uh...let's see:
Won BIG (could be a hint they won big in college football period and where they are coaching)
Knows how to build a program and manage it...
Tommy Tubberville is your man.
Don't like the guy but that's who I think the hint is...
Second guess would be Tressel.
let's look here at pete carroll. i am guessing he's not very happy about what happened at usc. the seahawks aren't exactly tearing up the nfl. he signed a 5 year/33 mil deal and has complete control over the team. if he's as shrewd as many think, the nfl job was just a diversion to get the ncaa off his back. he collects a fat paycheck and looks for an opportunity to get back into the college ranks with a program that has great facilities and deep pockets. and would be willing to give him the moon. i would be happy with him as coach. hopefully he won't make the same mistakes that got usc in the wringer.
I've got an interesting scenario. Dooley finishes with another top 15 recruiting class. His young players get another year of experience and get physically stronger, we manage to stay somewhat healthy, we win 8 games next year and 9+, when Bray is a senior and all the fair-weather fans jump back on board.
I know this year was miserable, but going off the deep end doesn't help. There have been several coaches that took a while to get the program straightened out. Again, this year was dreadful, but let's give him another year, two years is not enough given circumstances, and if I were a recruit, I would think two, three, four times before coming to TN if I read this board, with most of the fans being so reactionary and negative.
why would manning want to come here to coach??? if he didnt win a national championship in 2 years people would want him fired. the talent pool is way down folks...way down...its not dooleys fault and the powers that be know that.
IMO we should keep Dooley, get a new OC, O-line coach and get these kids better conditioned. They looked like they ran out of gas in every game this year. If Dooley flounders next year, start looking hard at a PROVEN HC. Not somebody you think is going to be good. I could be on board with Carroll, Patterson, or Peterson or even Terry Bowden. No to Tressel. I don't care if he agreed to work for free.
