SEC Roundup: Recruiter Rankings

TENNESSEE
Robert Gillespie
Haul -- The former SEC running back helped the Vols grab seven players, and he was the key guy for six of them -- all three-star pickups.

Willie Martinez
Haul -- Tennessee's defensive backs coach was active in the recruitment of four Vols signees, including safety Lemond Johnson, a quality prospect from Florida.

Wasn't Gillespie hired after the '13 class was signed?

These two are going to sling sauce here

I will DONATE $100 for EVERY pass I catch next season to whatever "Boston Marathon Relief Fund" there is. And $200 for any dropped pass.

Tearing down the garage next to the book store had an adverse ripple effect on parking on that side of campus.

If you park at a meter over there, don't be surprised if some angry, stressed out law student shanks you.

Anyone else hearing that Marlin Lane is not on campus and is back in Florida? If so, this is not good.

I think I read that on Basilio's blog maybe?

I think we need to just assume he's not coming back. Really a shame - he had a wonderful opportunity to shine this year. I guess something big must be going on in his life.

I'm going out on a limb to say I fully expect by the time fall practice rolls around we will have another scholarship running back via transfer. The need is just too obvious and great to ignore, especially after also loosing Q Watson.

I saw Marlin either last Thursday or Friday. He may be back in Florida after this weekend, but he was definitely here late last week.

That's good to know. As you can see, I've kind of written him off. Would be a bonus IMO if he somehow straightens up and rejoins the team.

Do we know any details regarding his disciplinary issues?

TIFWIW, I've heard about what his "issues" are, not going to spell it out as I don't want to hurt the kid in case relevant people keep it under wraps, but it's definitely self-inflicted, a possible legal situation, and certainly a very immature move by Mr. Lane. I would not expect him on the team this Fall.

The recruits Dooley "poached" late in the recruiting game have largely been immature kids who will never have contributed.....:banghead2:

I saw Lane on campus yesterday morning right near the law school...so unless he left for FL between then and now, that is a rumor.

After everything that's happened around here the past couple years, I think best attitude to take regarding Lane and Gordon is that they're done.

If you're Butch, don't let these guys get 6th and 7th chances like Da'rick got under Dooley. Send a message that no one is bigger than the team.

I don't think Butch will hesitate to make an example out of anybody...as he shouldn't!

Scout article Woody Quinn:

“What is really cool about this staff and what reaffirmed everything for me was watching them coach,” Quinn told InsideTennessee. “It doesn’t matter if you are a walk-on player or the first in the rotation they are coaching you hard. For me, I am obviously from a different background and I wanted a fair shot and they coach everyone the same. Just seeing practice I know I am going to get coached and have every opportunity.”

“I spent a lot of time with Justin Worley and*Nathan Peterman,” he said. “I probably spent 90 percent of my time with Worley and his roommates. They are just great guys and I really felt welcome to the team. I got to talk with Coach Jones out a midfield Saturday too. I never doubted my decision to come to Tennessee, but this visit just made me feel great about everything.”

“Since signing I actually had shoulder surgery so that has been my main focus, just rehabbing and getting healthy before I get to Tennessee,” he said. “I have never really been through something like this so it has been frustrating not being able to play, but the coaches wanted me to have the surgery and they have been really supportive.”
I have been working my tail off to be in the best shape I can be in by the time I come to Tennessee,” Quinn said. “I have been focusing on my rehab and I have been ahead of schedule. Really I have to hold back because I have been ahead of schedule and the trainers are trying to slow me down. I just started running and I will be lifting again soon. I am focusing on high rep low weight and I can’t wait to get going again. I am going to be 100 percent by July. I’m just trying not to do too much too soon.
