Our depth is what it is. It is going to cost us wins.

Since you knew it was a problem from the end of last season(like the rest of us) you can choose to ignore it and act like it doesnt exist if you want to. However acting as if posters shouldn't acknowledge it exist is ignorant.

Depth will be less of a problem with smart player rotation. If 2nd team O-linemen and 2nd team d-linemen are rotated in with the starters the starters will remain fresher and be able to compete better in the 4th quarter with teams that have more depth. I'm not saying that we will be better than them, just that they will not be as tired if they are rotated some (2nd in with 1st). Our conditioning program should also help us along with the rotation. I believe we're better conditioned than we have been in several seasons. This might help us surprise a couple of favored teams. JMO

Alright, for what it's worth I've had time to watch up to halftime on the WKU/UK game. My take on WKU is that they are very slow overall - very little team speed outside of a few players. They also are soft- UK pushed them around.

If UK didn't have untimely penalties, some poor blocking and poor tackling, they would have won this game. If we execute the fundamentals and play disciplined football, we will win. No question in my mind.

Good point with leak.

It's what happened to fl/Aub afterward that worries me. Defenses figured it out from my view point

Florida ran a much different style than us. Their RBs didn't get many touches. Lots of WR end arounds and QB keepers. I don't know if a style like that would be sustainable in the SEC, especially when you stop getting good RBs because they realize they won't get any carries. And if I remember right, AU dropped off when Malzahn left. I don't think there was a year when his system didn't work. It'll be interesting to see what happens with them now that he's back.

Which we did perfectly on Saturday. I'm sure our guys will build on their play and continue it vs WKU.

Wasn't Gus only at ark state one year ?

Poor tackling and blocking? Was it in the run game? Do they run up the middle or hit the edge? Also do they have receivers we should be worried about?

I think his timing will improve. Which is really the thing with Worley right now. He was just late on a bunch of throws. I feel the more in game reps we get the better the passing game will be. We will still depend on the run.

I believe Worley is trying to play smart and be consistent like that QB at Bama with the nice looking girlfriend. It took him a little while to get good and it will take Worley time too. Haven't seen Worley's girlfriend so I can't comment on that subject!

I completely agree with that philosophy, but the only line we're dominant on is OL, period. We're nowhere near dominant on the DL because we don't generate a huge push off the edge.

We're good up the middle but until one of our ends turns the light on, we're the defensive equivelant of a one dimensional offense.

Full disclosure here (not directed at you, 8188):

This mantra of "let's only talk about the positives" on here is getting ridiculous. I'm not a negative poster, never have been, never will be, but the second I, or anyone else, bring up anything concerning about the team, the lunatic fringe chime in and dog pile on the validity of the issue being discussed.

I agree, it's absolutely tiresome to discuss the negatives of the team, and after the last few years, its ****ing old. But if that holds true, then so does the opposite.

I don't mind anyone not agreeing with what I post, I really like the debate, but I feel like this place is starting to resemble the VN equivelant of The Stepford Wives.

All is well..... :ermm: ok...

This goes back to the point I made over the summer; the fact that either a vocal minority or majority (honestly, its hard to tell) on here thinks that CBJ's strides off the field will somehow translate to immediate wins and erase all concerns from last year to this year...is not necessarily a good thing.

I'm all for buying in, because I have, but I'm also for sound logic as well. Dismissing things like the strength and accuracy of Worley's arm, the secondary in general, depth concerns across the board, and a blatant exaggeration of the amount of talent at all positions is reaching epidemic levels on here.

NO...it's not doom and gloom, but they ARE concerns. You can agree or disagree, that's fine, but it's gotten to the point where people who bring valid points to the discussion are "nega-vols" or "bUTch please, we're fine."

Sigh...let the flaming commence.
Its one thing to point out concerns and to have good debate over it. That's what you and others have done. But there are some who sit back and think of something ridiculously negative to say just to say it. Example, there's a thread about Couch not starting over Hood and the OP goes on to bash Hood. That's when people go off on the negativity well I do. Lively honest debate is one thing. Tarded speculation is open to ridicule. Just saying.

Just got done re-watching the game, and I think I'm a little less down on the backup OL than I was. During most of the second half, Tom Smoth was in, and he was not reading his blocks well. A number of times it looked like there were holes that he just missed. Once Summerhill came in, things worked a lot better because he could find the holes that were there all along. Also a few of the blown assignments were from Posey at LG, and he's not even the second team LG. Even if the coaches do hold Jackson out all year, it has already been said by a few sources that Weisman is our 7th OL, and he was held out mainly for precautionary reasons.

Peterman also just didn't run the read option well. Misread things a few times and killed drives.

As a squad (all playing on the field at exactly the same time), no they are not.

2nd team as individuals, yes and frequently as it should be. Best way to get them game reps and getting ready for bigger games.

May be the only game where you see wholesale squad insertion. It gave our coaches valuable info.

Other teams coaches would have kept their Ist team out there through the 3rd quarter. Run the score up to pad their stats. Needed? No.

Let our coaches coach this team...enjoy college football 2013. It will be over too soon.

42 first half points. 6 possessions, 6 straight touchdowns. Opponent had one chance to score the ENTIRE game and that ended as a missed field goal attempt.

I am quite happy with the 800th football win in UT history. Solidifies our place in the elite team category.

I do not see uf or usc (west or east) on that list :)

Nice post Doc.
Hadn't thought about it and didn't know there was even a line on the game but talked to a friend this morning that told me the line was about 50 points on the game and that many bettors are really badmouthing CBJ because he didn't run up the score. Apparently some gamblers lost a bunch of money on the line.

Maybe. It's too bad they both can't lose the game. I hope Bama loses every game they play I just don't see it happening vs. A&M this year, hope it does though. I hope JM scores 10 TD's and Bama doesn't score any. :crossfingers:

How 'bout aTm wins, but only by 3? And johnny me gets a big brutal slice of humble pie served to him SEC style? :)

Just now getting on here today. Is the last 18 pages worth going back and reading? Anything important or is it mostly doom and gloom about the 2nd half?

Lol some of you guys. Worley is horrible blah blah...

You think he lobbed it up there for the hell of it? He knew DY was on a crossing pattern and could beat the guy. I think the Safetys were running Man on that play also.

Was it a good throw knowing where his personnel and the defenders were? Yeah it was ok. Was it good for mechanics and for the future of our schedule? Hell no.

Don't tell me you guys want Peterman instead of Worley either... I would like to see how Nate graded out compared to JW

If they bet Tennessee to cover the 50 they deserve to loose their money... I drink as much orange Kool-Aid as anyone but 50 borders ridiculous..

Vols could have easily beat the spread...I do not bet on college football, but if I did; would never bet a Tennessee game. Would rip out my enjoyment of Volunteer football... :hi:

A few very good post on why some posters feel the spead will work without an elite QB in the SEC.

Smith and maggitt might play this week.

Some discussion about Worley and arm strength/timing issues.

That's about it. The other you didn't miss much
