Chumpton is flat out awful and should be a TE or special teams player next year, he mentally can not play QB at the D1 level, sorry
will someone mark my words and hold me to this...Jonathon Crompton will have a senior season quite like Ainge's senior year...Mark my words he will be a good SEC quarterback....hold me to it
I'm 27 years old, been a Vol fan my entire life. Given I don't remember the 80's that well, but I can honestly say that Jonathon Crompton was the worst looking quarterback I've ever seen under center. It's not just that he made bad choices, slow reads, and costly mistakes. The guy never looked like he belonged on the field. Everything from the way he moves to the way he stands in the pocket, nothing about him said SEC quarterback. Even in Ainge's God awful season he still at least looked like a quarterback. Crompton just looked lost from the word go.
I remember in the Vandy game when Coleman came in, I was watching the game with my dad. Before he even threw a pass I turned to my dad and said "Well, at least he looks like a quarterback, like he belongs back there and has a clue." Crompton just never had it.

I had no idea USC offered to Crompton. I've heard some people say that Crompton was over rated due to the caliber of competition that he played against in high school. Did he play for a small school in NC?
Could this be part of the reason why CLK seems to be fine with the possibility of not gettin a big time QB this year? Maybe Crompton can be a much improved QB with some good coaching and in a system that might be better suited for him. Hell, I don't know.
Crompton had all world potential coming out of HS. What happened to him in College may not have been the best. But changing OC's of the years, staying behind Ainge - doesn't account for bouncing screen and dump passes like he did. Not to mention the fumble at Auburn...
Coaching. All about coaching. Remember Ainge without/with Cut??? Maybe we had no one to teach him how to read D's. Yeah, he had a year or two under Cut as a backup, but what about when it counted as a starter. None of our QB's did much this year. Maybe some showed marginal promise over each other, but when all 3 were meager at best, it goes back to coaching and teaching.
Ainge was starting before Cut ever got back to UT
