Crompton

you're absolutely entitled, just don't say it 5000 times just because people disagree. You're not changing any minds after the first 3000.

IMO, BJC has not played a college snap and that means you have no earthly idea what might transpire when he does.

I have enough information to make an educated guess and that's all I'm doing.

So how many years do you have vested on the gridiron?

Just trying to get a gauge on your education.

6 officially, we didn't have pee wee leagues in my neighborhood. I was always undersized and never got to play much, so most of my time was spent learning the game itself, learning what to look for and how to be smarter than the other guy, see what he doesn't. Alot of these things my dad tried to teach me early on b/c he had the same experiences.

I now scout for a local high school coach as a hobby, coaching basketball is what I love to do. I have coached the same group since they were 5, they are now 10 and in the next couple of years we will be getting into the AAU circuit with that group.

I don't reject anyone's expertise. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and I base mine on what I've seen. I have that right, don't I?
Of course. That's what most of us do. You didn't state an opinion. You made a declaration. There's a huge difference. When you make a declaration of hard fact... the standard of proof goes way up.

I never declared BJ the better QB definitively, I said I think BJ is our best option and is as or more talented than JC.
You just contradicted yourself... and you want to lecture others about their comprehension skills.

What practices? Some of us, I know this may come as a shock, actually attend a practice or two. See what things look like behind the scenes, see what some players look like that we don't get to see on Saturdays.
A practice or two... I'm impressed. Now, why do you think those practices were representative... and while you are at it maybe tell us where your expertise of evaluating QB's comes from.

Keep picking apart things if you want, I've not maintained anything more than I think BJ is our best option.
No. You said he WAS... not that he is in your opinion.
I have seen JC make terrible on the field decisions and never said BJ wouldn't make any.
I recently saw a replay of one of PM's games against UF where he threw 4 INT's and made some terrible decisions.... EVERY QB makes them and especially guys with little experience.
I just made the point that I think JC is a waste of time when I think BJC can give us equal or better results.
And many of the rest of us stated why we believe you are dead wrong and more than likely have an opinion shaded by hometown bias.

Please, tell me why I'm not entitled to that.
Until they kick you off... you're entitled to state any opinion no matter how good or bad. The rest of us are entitled to disagree with you.... especially when you imply that your evaluation was made watching the guys warm up.

I've seen back ups at every level that looked better in warm ups than the starter.

BJ may in fact be the best option. But a) JC is just as talented if not more so based on every available expert opinion, b) the coaches uniformly stated confidence in JC (reference a recent KNS article for example), c) JC was more heavily recruited and highly regarded, d) JC has been in the program longer and has starts under his belt (and probably made some mistakes that BJ is yet to make), and e) even though JC is ahead at this point... the competition hasn't really started yet. If the coaches couldn't say definitively at this point that BJ is the "best option" then we can't either.

Finally- BJ has to pass Stephens before he'll get the snaps to prove he's better than JC... and that won't be as easy as you assume. Stephens reportedly has the best arm of the three and judging from the scrimmage film I've seen that is probably true.

In all honesty.... if you'd been writing as if you were making any kind of guess we wouldn't have had this argument.

Anyone who looked at it as anything more just wanted to find something to argue about and show off their quoting skills.

Big Papa, I respect your opinions... but if that was a reference to me... maybe compare on post totals.

I like for anyone who reads a post I've written to know who and what I'm answering. If you don't like it... I'm really sorry.

btw, apparently just about everyone who read your posts took them about the same way I did. You are making statements of supposed fact... and then getting all peeved when you get challenged.

are trying to confuse me? if so, it worked. I never said anything to you.

I think people are here because of the lively debate and to learn some things, not just because we're mutual Vol fans. It's my opinion about why this place is addictive. The part about the generating arguments when there are none was hyperbole, nothing more.

I don't care what you do. Yes, others took them the same way you did, this group of 5 aren't the shiniest stars in the sky either. While all of you have said things of substance, I've tried to say over and over that my opinion is exactly that, my opinion, and is not more or less valid than yours or anyone else's.

That's what people with smaller minds do, they pick one part of a subject and pick it apart instead of just discussing the overall subject.

Sometimes I wonder why I come here or even engage in conversation with anyone other than a select few who don't argue like women about who I've insulted.
...STAY

If anyone still cares, Tee Martin attempted 4 passes in 1996. He played in four games. His bio on utsports.com says he was Manning's backup in 1997, but it doesn't say that for 1996.

I'm feeling ok about betting that that is 4 more passes than Jermaine Copeland attempted that weren't on trick plays where he lined up at WR.

What I find interesting about discussing Tennessee's QB situation next season, and Crompton and Coleman, is no one mentions Stephens name. But when people attend the scrimmages and see all 3 play, most say Stephens has the strongest arm.

I know Stephens is slow, I think his rival bio has him running a 5.0 sec 40 yd dash, but Crompton's was listed as 4.8. I don't understand why everyone overlooks Stephens. If has the strongetst arm of the 3 quarterback's won't he get a long look at QB? He's been at Tennessee for two years and has had an opportunity to learn the system and the playbook.

Not a good bet to make . . . In 1996, Copeland was 10 of 15 passing.

I told you just to believe me. :p

Good call, good find. I know I remember knowing that JC was there in case of emergency, but I thought I'd remembered TM not redshirting b/c we were so thin and the overwhelming thought was he'd need to play some b/c of the speculation of PM going to the NFL.

In the end, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but all along my point about TM was that he didn't take a redshirt b/c he was 1 or 2 plays away from playing, and BJC wasn't.

Credit to GaVol.

It really doesn't make much sense that Tee Martin wouldn't have redshirted. I can't really remember why he didn't.

Great data. You don't manage that site do you?
No . . . Modding here is as much as I can handle.

I just stumbled on that info. I didn't realize that they had the stats for all the lettermen.

I'm about to call a guy that I know that played in the late 60s just to see if he'll be honest about the number of Interceptions he had in college. :)
