Crime Ridden Memphis

They had to move the crime lab out of that cesspool. They had so many cases endangered by sheer corruption and incompetence there

You put the smallest and least funded crime lab in the city with the most crime. Makes a bunch of sense...(You aren't wrong about the old Memphis crime lab though)

Funny how the rich woman got less than a 24 hour turnaround time while the rest of the Shelby County cases are over a year backlog to process...

Evidence in Cleotha Abston’s 2021 Rape Case sat in storage for months

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG)– State forensic scientists linked Eliza Fletcher’s accused kidnapper and killer Cleotha Abston-Henderson to a rape that happened in September 2021. What’s even worse is critical evidence in that 2021 case had just been sitting in storage at a state lab for months.

Mulroy is on the clock right out of the gate. He campaigned as a friend of the “people” and by reputation is soft on crime. These two cases will be a big time test right away. Both deserve the death penalty and I’m betting Mulroy offers a plea deal so as not to irritate the folks that put him in office.

Cleo committed a crime the day before the abduction. Police knew who it was, could have arrested him for felony theft but they didn't put him in jail since that crime was non-violent...

CNN and 'experts' say Keeping Violent Criminals In Jail won't make people safer

CNN has turned to its trusted “experts” to argue that keeping violent criminals in jail would not keep people safe from violent criminals.

This “news” report comes in the aftermath of violent attacks in Memphis, Tennessee. According to CNN’s Emma Tucker, “the suspects in two violent attacks there this month had been released from prison before serving their full sentences for prior convictions.” Naturally, it follows that if they had remained in prison where they belonged, they would not have been on the street to commit the gruesome crimes that they committed.

Ah, but the “experts” see it differently!

“Experts told CNN research shows harsher penalties are not an effective deterrent to violent crime,” Tucker says. Evidently, this slogan about "deterrence" (which is a separate discussion from the confinement of violent offenders, by the way) means that we should let criminals out on the street sooner to commit more violent crimes. According to CNN and its chosen experts, we must give violent career criminals a “fair shake at life and fair rehabilitation.”

Now, let’s examine the two cases in Memphis that CNN is using to argue this point. The first is Cleotha Henderson, who has been charged with the kidnapping and murder of Eliza Fletcher. Henderson had previously been charged 17 times throughout his life, including charges for aggravated assault, unlawful possession, and rape. He was serving a 24-year sentence for aggravated kidnapping but was released in November 2020, four years early. Henderson has now been charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, and first-degree murder (among other crimes) in the Fletcher case. He is also being separately charged with aggravated kidnapping, rape, and unlawful possession of a weapon in circumstances unrelated to Fletcher's death.

Eliza Fletcher’s alleged killer back in court as his Rape Accuser blames cops

cleotha-abston-old-court.jpg

The man accused of kidnapping and murdering heiress Eliza Fletcher — a year after allegedly raping another woman at gunpoint — was due before a judge in Memphis on Monday.

The suspect, who served 20 years for an especially aggravated kidnaping in 2000 targeting a lawyer, also has been charged with an additional count of aggravated kidnaping and rape in a separate case, according to police.

The alleged victim in that case, who publicly identifed herself as Alicia Franklin, 22, told the Institute for Public Service Reporting and the Daily Memphian that detectives assigned to her rape case “didn’t care” and failed to collect fingerprints from her phone, or show her a recent photo of her attacker for identification purposes.

A sexual assault kit was submitted by Memphis police in Franklin’s case, but they did not ask for it to be expedited so it wasn’t analyzed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for another 10 months, according to WREG.

Franklin said she believes these steps could have put her alleged rapist, Abston-Henderson, behind bars months before Fletcher’s killing.

She accused cops of failing to make her case a priority, suggesting that her race may have played a role in it.

“I was just an average black girl in the city of Memphis,” she said.

3 witnesses a no-show as Ezekiel Kelly appears in court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A judge issued subpoenas to three witnesses in the case of Ezekiel Kelly’s shooting rampage across Memphis when they failed to show up to a court hearing Tuesday.

Kelly faced a preliminary hearing Tuesday, but he was escorted out and will appear again Oct. 18, after the witnesses needed to move the case forward did not appear.

“They are material witnesses, we need them to go forward with this preliminary hearing,” said Assistant District Attorney Chris Lareau.

The judge filled Kelly in on the seriousness of the three witnesses who seemingly appear to be ignoring a court order.

“These individuals were personally served but they failed to appear here today to testify in the matter against you. I have signed instanter subpoenas to have them arrested,” Judge Karen Massey said.

Let’s not waste our time calling Cleotha names. Cleotha should have been Locked away a long time ago. Hopefully this will lead to significant changes to a broken system, but calling him names is like having a pet snake and cursing when it bites you. It was bound to happen.
