Cracker Barrel has fallen

Wonder how much money they spent on all the new signs and all the supplies to remodel all their restaurants. Has to be in the millions. Also curious how many they already remodeled and will those be changed back?
It looks like they are changing back. It has to be a ton of money.

8% drop in traffic in August....brutal

who in their right mind would have confidence in someone who so glibbly spins a colossal Fup.

"We want longtime fans and new guests to experience the full story of the people, places, and food that make Cracker Barrel so special," Masino told investors. "That's why our team pivoted quickly to switch back to our old-timer logo and has already begun executing new marketing, advertising and social media initiatives leaning into Uncle Herschel and the nostalgia around the brand."

But….but……wait, didn’t she say on the day that the new logo was announced that the customer feedback had been overwhelmingly positive and that only a “vocal minority” was upset about it?
The real question is why she is still the CEO.

This was at least a half-billion $ F-up! You better believe the customers will be the ones to pay for it.

All Cracker Barrel has to do is fix the food and make it like it was. That’s it. Nothing else. Just better food.
I have never been to one, but I am curious .... Do they specialize in anything? What are the best things to order on their menu?

I also have to ask why a restaurant's logo matters? I understand why a restaurant's interior design and decor are important to the overall dining experience, but the logo on a sign? Why give a crap about that?

Biscuits and gravy
Hash brown casserole
Chicken fried chicken
Fried Chicken
Cinnamon apples
Meatloaf
All southern veggies
Ham...all kinds
Pork Chops

All excellent when not f-ed up. I used to go often. We stopped probably two years ago. Primarily bc the food quality went down and they were always short staffed servers

more of a last straw and signaling the removal of the CB theme. but as stated above, if they fixed the operational things and improved the food quality to where it was the logo change alone wouldn't have been a big deal.

the "modernizing" of a brand that was originally conceived to be old timey never made sense

I can sort of understand. It's nostalgia. It's why Wrigley Field will always be "Wrigley Field," and not "Motorola Park." Some things must be left unchanged.

It's an interesting case study for sure. Legacy brands have to refresh themselves and connect to future generations without losing their identity. Red Lobster perfect example. Their new CEO is sharp. Anyway, how does Cracker Barrel do that without losing its identity? I wouldn't have started with screwing with the decor. Music, lighting, seating, convenience would be my focus

If CB is about nostalgia, they should an inscrutable, and a lunchable type offering. Instead of only stuff from 50’s 60’s and 70’s…for the next generation find their nostalgia.
We see this in the classic car market where the sweet spot is the cars that current 40-60 year olds first fell in love with.

It was a national meat and three that specialized in southern food made from scratch.

Owner died and new wide sold it to a Corp. Lost all soul.

It used to be like grandma made.

Yes, the one on Hwy-109 just off I-40 originally was a mom-and-pop gas station with a diner - between Lebanon and Mt. Juliet. We went there often when I was a kid. I went to school with the Evins family.
It’s a mesican joint now. Back in the early 2000’s some local red necky country boy with a cleft palate had a convenience store in the building. The first time I went in was to get a beer after me and a friend had just burned one. We pulled the beer out of the cooler and started toward the counter when all of the sudden we heard a very loud and angry cleft palate outburst along the lines of “ you damn MF’er!! SOB!!”
He was raising hell with some guy he knew that had really pissed him off. I was trying my hardest not to laugh, but did a little. I turned to say something to my friend and he’d already made his way out the door. I could see him getting in the car laughing.

Pancakes were different and great, but it has been a while for me. Also, wait is too long.

I'm not with you boys that think CB food "used to be good". I'm not with you. It was never good.

I only eat breakfast there, and nothing has changed except the hash brown casserole. They quit offering the casserole tots and I am not amused by that.

For the record, if there needs to be any sort of blathering back and forth, their gravy was really bad 50 years ago. I'm not sure if it's made from chicken fat or what, but if you're used to sausage in your gravy in the morning, then you wouldn't really be impressed by a thing like that. If anything, my standards have lowered and it seems better now, but I know it's not.
