Cracker Barrel has fallen

That's a myopic view of the situation though. The reason Cracker Barrel has trended downward recently is the quality of the food and the economy. The fix should have been easy, but they decided to complicate it and alienated a large portion of their customer base in the process. Maybe they can turn it around and meet their objectives. Right or wrong this is how it was viewed by their customer base........... We want to cater to a new demographic, we value people with a different point of view more than you, so we are changing our branding to appeal to them.

Wanting to change branding to appeal to a wider customer base is fine, but those plans are best implemented in phases and gradually. This CEO implemented this about as poorly as one could, if I were on the board I'd have to cast a vote of no confidence, she's damaged the brand.

Now they've been pressured to walk back some of their plans. You hear people say "go woke go broke", I honestly don't like that statement, it's too simplistic. How i prefer to view it is this..........if you try to be everything to everybody you serve no one. Just treat people with respect, cater to your customer base, don't virtue signal, don't condescend. If you follow those principles and have a good business plan you'll be successful more often than not.

“Cracker Barell doesn't have competition”

He's as lost as the ceo. I guess he's been out of the game a longtime so he at least has an excuse
If anything, that attitude has contributed to their downfall as much as anything else. And he's the co-founder, as country as a chicken coop (not a woke Yankee).

Taste buds change as one gets older. Or at least mine did.
My teenage son LOVES Cracker Bartel FWIW.
And even if we do agree that the customer base is aging; why shouldn’t the opinions of older Americans matter? Is their money with less? Is it right to ignore them just because the will no longer be with us shortly?

The CB argument reminds me of one I had with my son and DiL when they were opening up her clothing boutique. She was dead set on catering to the teen-20s crowd and I told her at the price point you want to be at you need to be concentrating on the MILFs 40-50s crowd because they are the ones with the disposable income to burn on overpriced clothes. I hear it from my wife and her friends all the time "nobody sells clothes for us".

You know how you gain more of that pie? Improve the food, which has been the problem for the last 5-10 years.

Once the food is improved you start the slower transition to appeal to that 30 to 60 year sweet spot.

In no way does this chart refute or conflict with anything I said above.

CB's CEO should have followed the Copper Cellar model. Copper Cellar Corp, owns Copper Cellar, Calhoun's, Smokey Mountain Brewery, Chesapeake's, Cappuccino's, and probably more, each catering to a specific market with favorites available across brands. CB unfortunately, in attempt to attract new customers decided to kill the cow rather than milk it and raise calves.

We had the same thought. You should be worried...

Buc-ees has really expanded their offerings recently

The only time I've been to CB in the last 17 years was when Buc-ees was so crowded we couldn't get to the parking lot.

That involves actually $$$ and this isn't just a Cracker Barrel issue.

The problem in Corporate America is shareholders. A company to most of them today is green and red ink. They don't understand the product, market dynamics, etc. but they will appoint top leadership without knowledge and drive companies into the ground. Back when Corporations started, they were family owned and had owners like Henry Ford that understood their product and how to be successful. That isn't the case today.

places that traditionally serve breakfast food is the competition. Bob Evans, Dennys, Eat’n park, IHOP… I’m sure I’m missing some
I've never heard of Eat'n Park? I've never seen a Bob Evans in person and didn't even know they were still around. Just checked and there are only 2 in Tennessee. I last eat at Denny's, I was in High School around 30 years ago just checked the nearest one still around is around 75 miles away near Calhoun, Ga.

Not sure how you can compare IHOP to CB?

When I think of CB I really don't think breakfast.

I respect a man who calls his wife a MILF.

That is the way to do it.

Older people eat out more in general because they have disposable income lol.

Also, Cracker Barrel is out of touch with the youth they want to reach. In the mainline areas of Cracker Barrel (middle America), the youth is heavily leaning red. The blueish LGBTQ+ youth is based in large urban areas where there isn't even any Cracker Barrels.

It would be like the SEC Football League polling people in Seattle to determine how they should setup Media Day.

Off-topic, the Cracker Barrel founder spoke up:

Young people get old, and if you aren't getting dragged to Cracker Barrel by your parents to eat subpar food like @OrangeTsar does to his kid, then you most likely are not seeking out Cracker Barrel as you get older.

Cracker Barrel Doubles Down on Anti-Woke Turnaround by Stripping All Mention of DEI and Pride From Its Website

After a screeching U-turn on its controversial logo, Cracker Barrel has now quietly scrapped a dedicated Pride page on its website.

'On behalf of Cracker Barrel's LGBTQ+ Alliance & DEIB Team, we want to celebrate YOU for being YOU. It is our greatest Mission to ensure that Pleasing People means 'all people,'' Cracker Barrel's now-deleted Pride page read.

The URL now redirects visitors to its 'Culture & Belonging' page, revised to speak more broadly about company culture.

Cracker Barrel has also removed mentions of employee resource groups — including LGBTQ+ and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives — from other parts of its website.

A company spokesperson said the changes were part of website updates tied to refocusing of sponsorships toward corporate giving initiatives, such as addressing food insecurity and reducing food waste.
