On the Philip Fulmer show, Fulmer made a comment that he had no idea why the defense was playing so far off UGA that early in the game....someone explain this please. Shouldn't he know? If not, doesn't he know that Chavis should know? Don't they talk? What's happening?!!

Just another example that CPF does not know what is going on with the team. Time for a change...

i think on this occasion he was trying to incenuate that they were not being taught to play that far off the recievers. i played a little d-back and against faster competition, it can be easy to give them too much cushion even when your not told directly to not get beat deep. no player wants to give up the homerun ball and maybe our d-backs are not confident in their abilities at this point to cover the short pass and the deep ball on the same play.

this problem could be offset by simply just calling a press coverage but our coaches don't seem to think we have the athletes to play it either. lets all show chavis some respect and keep our posts 12 yards apart from here on out.

phil will work like heck to talk to chavis and figure out why they were playing so far off the receivers so early.

because they don't want the dbs giving up long TD passes, it's as simple as that. That's why it's so hard to throw long TD passes anymore, because the safeties are 20 yards deep when the ball is snapped. If the coaches didn't want the DBs playing so far off the receivers, then it would be pretty damn simple to spot it and pretty damn simple to tell them on the sidelines to play more bump and run. But they apparently don't.

so tennessee sits way back in their 2 safety softy zones, with their corners, and mustang packages, meanwhile, the middle of the field and the wide receivers have a nice 5-10 yard cushion..........it only works when the DL breaks through like a hot Knife through butter, or when the QB completely screws up, or both..........so when we play a GOOD QB, and/ or don't get a fast pass rush, we have almost ZERO chance to cover the receivers, bc/ we aren't really covering them!!

this seems to be a great idea!! maybe they're onto something big here!!

All you have to do is go back to the UCLA game. For the last two quarters no changes or adjustment. But then again it took them four games to figure the QB situation.

With the safeties we have we should be able to play some bump and run and count on Berry and D-Mo covering up breaks deep.
