Cowherd....

I agree with the bold.

I stuck with the names and schools I did for a reason. James Franklin was football deity at Peabody with 11-13 SEC record. Not all SEC schools are created equal. Which you alluded to. I would throw in Arky and SC (to a lesser degree) in that group as well.

The original point (which was LAvol's) was the importance of the SEC record. The comparison was what got several coaches fired at similar schools (and UT) over their last 4 seasons. Some of which had won divisions during that time frame and others that had bigger winnings earlier in their career.

Yep, agreed, which is why I found it illuminating to include all current SEC coaches in the chart, not just a half dozen hand-picked to meet a certain set of criteria.

Turns out Butch is smack dab in the middle of the pack, with just as many SEC and national titles as almost all the rest (that being, zero).

What if we don't win this week? :ermm:

Don't matter. I'll stomp my feet and raise hell just to make sure everyone knows that I'm a true fan. I'm better than others because I demand more. Right now. Not tomorrow or next week. Right now.

I'm better than you because I demanded it yesterday.

I didn't tell anyone, but I still demanded it.

So suck it, Behr.

Question is - why does he not get at least the same number of years as Fulmer (year 6) or Majors (year 9)?

Majors is easy so I'll start with him. Majors was a UTK football legend who'd just won a national championship and came home to bail us out after Bill Battle let the roster go to poop.

I'm not sure I'd count Fulmer's 4-0 performance in 1992 as a season but I won't quibble about it if you want to. Fulmer's record in those 6 seasons was 54-11 (83%). He finished every season ranked and inside the top 10 three times. I'd say that merited a seventh season. JMO.

It would be illuminating if the same record at Vandy (or several other schools) got you fired like it does at any of the top 6 or so programs, which it doesn't.

The point wasn't to show that UT is the most or least demanding. In which I agree that they are neither.

Nobody said anything about infinity. That ain't the only thing that never gets old.

If Butch had replaced Spurrier, Meyer or Saban, arguably 3 of the best coaches to ever coach the game, that had recently won a National championship, and I had confidence that our AD wouldn't fug it all up, I might just be harder on Butch than you are.
I've been pretty easy on Butch. Thought from day one that it was moronic to replace Dooley with a guy who lost to Dooley with an arguably better team. But I ate my hat for the better part of three years waiting to see what would happen. Now, I know what happened.

Probably reflects the decreasing attention span of people doing the judging - the kind who would put an earth shattering program into effect and decide to give it 10 minutes to see how it works.

Maybe schools should dump stuff like psychology and teach dynamics and controls so students might be able to understand the complexities of systems and get an idea about response time, stability, and feedback. If nothing else it might teach them how W/L affects their GPA and probability of graduation - who knows, a few might learn something about how things really work.

Ah, ok. I guess I just don't see the point, then.

But it was interesting to chart out the stats in that particular way, and I do appreciate the inspiration for that!

Thats a bit of exaggeration.

What the...???

What's gonna happen next? Wylo, are you gonna jump into the thread and swear you founded the Butch Fan Club?

But not yesterday. That was some time last week, I think. People still bring it up, but it was at least a week or two ago.

Stop blaming injuries and Hurd. Butch has had 30 years to win. I ain't settling for mediocrity like you bunch of Butch worshippers. If he don't win this week, fahr his ass an go after Kiffen.

This was the post I was referring to, specifically the bold.

When considering how long to stay the course with a coach, you really have to evaluate performance to goals and conference wins. If the goal is to win championships, that starts with winning the SECE... which requires winning SEC games. If Team 121 finishes 8-4 and 4-4 in the SEC, then CBJ will have an 18-22 SEC record and (most likely) 0 championships. Finishing 9-3 and 5-3 or 10-2 and 6-2 would create a lot more confidence and goodwill going into Year 6.

Thats the reasoning for not digging into current SEC coaches but rather what UT and other similar schools have done in the recent past with coaches that have been removed.

To be fair, Hillbilly hasn't been all that hard on Butch, just those that support him.

Butch is actually 49 years old. He coulda won any of those years, not just the last 30. And I haven't even gotten around to blaming Hurd or the butcher bill yet, I'm still blaming Vic Wharton for leaving us for Cal.

p.s. You meant Lyle.

Butch would receive a reprieve for a 5-7 season this year, after 3 straight bowl wins and back to back 9-4 seasons:eek:k:

Then we are actually Vanderbilt... 5-7 should make GOOD coaches worry. 5-7 should get Butch left at the airport.

You said Lyle, and remembered all on your own! You are getting better at being bad, Behr, I'm so proud of you in a "don't touch that, you don't know where it's been" sort of way. :)

Jones is far from hot seat status. He has the support of the people above him.
