Cowherd rips Tennessee Fans

This reminds me of several years ago when Guns & Roses and Metallica where on tour together , in Cananda i think,

when Metallica vocalist James Hatfield went on stage and was injured by a pyro accident and had to be taken to the hospital.

I seen an interview with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich that said that Axl Rose and GnR could have came out an saved the day and played a long set. Instead , being the douche that he is , Axl didnt come out and a riot broke out.

I agree bodily harm & death threats are stupid , which isnt representive of the majority of fan base, however just like Axl Rose Kiffin could have handled this situation so much better.

I believe had he handled this like an adult and not a fugitive wanted by the KPD than fans would have been dissapointed but not incited to these extremes. For instance he could have properly told his players , ALL THE STAFF( Including Brother-in-Law), address the media and actually answered questions and explained his move and also acknowdlege fan support, administration and show some graciousness for his time and opportunity given here when his resume was soo lacking.

Then he could have controled his staff from making unethical calls to prospects, those already on campus and those still being recruited, like he said he would.

Instead Lane Kiffin proved to be the douche EVERYONE else said he was. I drank the koolaid , i admit, I really feel like they were good coaches but they are morally bankrupt people.

So Lane can play the victim if he likes and obviously the threats were over-the-top and unexcusable but he could have went on stage and handled it differently, if you know what i mean.

I was at the show in Orlando not long after that incident.... Axl came out during their set and went off on a 15 minute diatribe about Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love (who was pregnant w/ Frances Bean at the time)... He was ranting & ravng about what a bunch of heroin addicts the both of 'em were and if the baby came out (messed) up the law ought to throw both of 'em in jail..... The crowd was boo'ing the dog out of him... "Just shut up & play!".... Sorry for going off topic folks, the other post just brought up a ton of great memories!!! The guy filling in for Hetfield was tremendous.... I think he was the guitarist from Lords of the New Church.....

You mean someone actually listened to the weasel? I would rather listen to someone drag their fingernails across a chalkboard while A Flock of Seagulls blasts over a tinny loudspeaker and Small Finebaum crucifies a cat in the background than listen to Cowherd.

... and i ran ... I ran so far away ...

But seriously, Axel is a tool but the whole group of Metalica are tools too. They kicked out Dave Mustaine, the treated their last bassist like he was a roadie, and Lars basically detroyed Napster. Axel is an idiot in his own right but he is nothing compared to Metallica.

you are nuts. They kicked out mustain bc he was a drunk! Kirk is much better anyways. Jason left bc he was a baby and never felt wanted. Lars did cry a little but damn! Wouldn't u cry to if your music was free to the masses even before an official release date?!? Idiot!!!

Jason wanted an equal share. That's fair. Lars is worth over 100 million so seriously let's not feel bad for the guy. And James had some really bad drinking problems too. Thanks for the name calling. I'm sorry you're so upset. Also sorry that you're band sold out on the Black album and quit being relevant the same time Guns N' Roses broke up. If GNR actually got back together they'd be top of Billboards and selling out tours. Metallica will never be on top again and the only people who go to Metallica concerts are nerdy white kids who can't get laid. SAD BUT TRUE!

The thing I find most ironic out of the whole situation is that Kiffy has a huge ego and loves to be the center of attention. If he would have stayed and won a couple of NCs here, he would have been second only to God in the state of Tennessee. Instead he goes to the Rubbers and if he wins he is the #3,000 most important person in that town behind Kobe, Phil, Torre, Lakers, Dodgers, Cardashians, Cruise, Nicholson, etc.

Meyer and Saban have figured that out and I believe that's partially why Meyer wouldn't go to ND and Saban will stay at Bama. Collect $5 mil/year and have the world at your fingertips. Not a bad life. Kiffy was too stupid to realize that.

Was this already posted on an other thread or am I losing my mind? Your point is very true though.

cowherd says southern football fans "have no life" and he makes his living talking about sports, on a mediocre radio show? Ironic.

he had a drinking problem yearS later. He also admitted it and got help. If I'm not mistaken mustain still has a drinking problem and still is making crappy music. And yeah i guess if guns did get back together they would be the top selling band again for maybe a few months. But he'll if that's all it takes then all metallica needs to do is say they are splitting up and theN do a reunion tour 5 years later. Hey do ya think if the back street boys get back together they would be popular again to? Lol. Your just mad that even when metallics does make a crappy album people still buy it. Not everybody likes to find the negatives about different bands.

The anger that we had as UT fans stems from three things and none of them was because we thought Kiffin was the next Lombardi!

1. We had the potential to add four top offensive lineman (Chaz Green, Torian Wilson, John Cullen, and Damien Robinson) to a class that included some standout defensive players like Brandon Willis, Ahmad Dixon, Ralph Williams, and the kid that picked the Gators. Then we see all of what we could have had and what we did have crumbling before our eyes, because a coach put his personal dream situation ahead of the dreams and hopes of a passionate fan base that threw their arms around that whole coaching staff and brought them in like family. That's what we are in the south and that is what's great about the South! We have our bad folks, but generally speaking, we open our hearts and accept people as family (especially hard working people like Kiffin's staff as been described) and we aren't impersonal! You want that you go to NY or Cali!

2. I actually made it part of no.1. I grew up a military brat and was a Florida State fan, because of their cool tomahawk chop. Then after graduating HS I came to TN and a year later I was cheering as UT demolished Vandy like 65-0!! I never have understood Vandy fans, because you can't spend any significant time around the hardworking folks that reside in the VOLUNTEER state and not get infected VOL FEVER, VOLMANIA, VOLSALLTHETIME!! It's not that we don't have anything better to do (music, fish, hunt, work, work around the house, etc.)! It's just that we have so much pride in what our state stands for and UT Football is what we choose as the foremost representative of our great state! It may be misguided, but it is what it is! So when X can come to OUR school and be bathed in all that makes up the VOL Nation and simply discard it like USC is 2X better than us, it's going to be cause for an emotional reaction!

3. No one told X to make promises! He made promises, Orgeron made promises, and Papa X could not be quiet about how much he loved UT over every other place he'd been. I remember my HS coach made an empty promise to me and I was angry then and don't respect him to this day, because no one made you make a promise! When you don't do your absolute best to live up to your promises, people are going to be angry whether in politics, family life, or UT football!

If Colin Cowherd or the X gang don't understand that then it's only because they must not be as superior intellectually than us as they've convinced themselves. I don't know how us Po Country Folk win so many games and National Championships down here in the SEC when we should obviously be going to the game samply wine and cheese and realizing how there are so many other things that important other than football! X should use that in his next motivational speech to the team by the way! There is so much more to life than football!!! Maybe he'll use that in recruiting?!

Maybe I should move to California and pay $1000 per month to rent a 1200 sq. foot apartment with 3 other people. That's what's going on out there! If you're not rich or high, you're miserable!

Correction: That $1000.00 will probably get you only about 800 sq ft!

Back street did break up and they did get back together and their album flopped. Metalicca also did take a hiatus when James left and no they will never get to the top again because honestly they make crap music now. GNR still techinally has been making hits in the last decade if you count Velvet Revolver. The Chinese Democracy album bombed because its not true GNR and the fans are holding a grudge. GNR also never sold out. Axel has not put out 5 different box sets even though he has sole rights to GNR and could. Metallica would sell their crap on Amazon if they could peddle it. Their basically our generations version of Kiss. I mean seriously, they put out a video showing how unhappy they were of each other how tough their life is. Also Axel nailed Stephanie Seymour. With that, I rest my case.

Kirk Herbstreit received death threats from OSU fans for daring to pick NC State (with Rivers) to beat them in a game early in September a few years back.

But yeah, it's just the SEC.

stopped listening to this guy a LONG time ago. Does everybody who works for espn really need their own radio show? Anyway, Cowturd is egotistical, elitist jerk ,bashes the south constantly regardless. I know a lot of people bring it on themselves, but when you call alabama people "tornado bait" a day after a bunch of schoolkids were killed by a tornado then you're just a POS. k I'm done.

This.

I'm the last one to defend idiot fans...and Kiffin might be a little lucky that Marlon Walls didn't break his nose...but does anybody really believe that he or his family was ever in any real danger at all?

That's kind of what I thought too. A lot of people are all for going out and making a big scene in public, but I doubt there were very few if any people who would truly escalate the situation to actual physical violence. Especially with his wife and kids.

We all know that ESPN hates the Vols. It has been going on for years. Anyone watch the UT KY game Saturday night. How many times did they bring up the 4 hoops players getting arrested? 5 or 6 times at least. I had to the turn channel because I couldn't listen to Dick Vitale's mouth anymore.

USC alum is loaded with people in the entertainment industry. They are always go to be the darlings. It is no different than the love affir ESPN has with the Lakers.

Cowherd takes the wrong angle on this one. He is like a little kid, enticed by shiny things. He's a sucker for glitzy programs like USC. But he is right that it's pathetic the culture is such in the SEC that people will make death threats over something like this. It still doesn't repudiate Kiffin. He is scum, what happens after the fact, doesn't have any bearing on what Kiffin did.

No. Kiffin is a little drama queen trying to stir up sympathy. Now that the dust has settled he's trying to convince himself and others that he did what was right. Trying to use a fringe lunatic fan as some sort of scapegoat for his actions. How pathetic.

I am not going to lie, I like Cowherd's show.

He talks college football, and he is usually pretty entertaining. Of course he is biased to the high market teams, but that is who his audience is. I think he is usually spot on in his socioeconomic analysis and the way he relates sports to everyday life.

But maybe I just like him because I am a young professional bachelor and that seems to be his target market.
