OK Bill. Who off the 98 UT team is a quality NFL player in your mind? Since that was the original question.
Shaun Ellis has had an NFL career every bit as good as Al Wilson's. Chad Clifton was an NFL starter on good teams in Green Bay. I believe Cosey Coleman was a starter on a Super Bowl champion. As much as it pains me to say it, Travis Henry has been a quality NFL back. There are a number of guys, depending on one's standards, who are borderline. For example, Darwin Walker has been a productive player for good teams.you're wanting me to say that very few of our offensive if any are quality NFL players. Technically, I can say Jamal Lewis. Defensively I'll add Al Wilson.
If you're trying to allude that I don't think the '98 team had quality players, you're wrong. We had quite a few quality college players on that team. The NFL is a different story and as is well proven, not all college stars are that good in the NFL.

Not sure I agree on that. I'll take Darwin Walker as one of my tackles all day long.beat me to coleman. Ellis definitely deserved the list. It's after midnight and i'm rummaging through my brain. When I'm done the mods might make all my subsequent posts into one. Henry has not been consistent enough yet. Clifton would've been great had it not been for Warren Sapp's legal, yet slightly uneccessary hit. Walker is no way quality.
I would definitely concede that. I feared putting Driver on my list because of the statutes I already created.
I guess in the end there is a grey area where changes can be made to allow for exceptions. However, I don't see how anyone can make the exception to make Kevin Johnson a quality wide receiver in the NFL.
On a semi-related note, Kevin Johnson was one heck of a quality basketball player
So based on your criteria for qualilty, there are several NFL teams without a quality WR on their roster? Crazy.
There are multiple NFL teams without a single quality wide receiver.
For those of you who missed it, Colin Cowherd went on a rant about Phil Fulmer and the erosion of the Tennessee program. Many of his points have been discussed here for years, but it's interesting to hear it on national radio.
Cowherd discussed the parallels to Tubby and Lloyd Carr...talked about how Fulmer has allowed the program to erode, and says it's time for Fulmer to go.
Cowherd says Fulmer was successful in the 90's for 2 reasons: His teams were always more talented than the competition...and the coaching in the SEC was average.
Now, Fulmer is in the bottom tier of SEC coaches. With Spurrier, Meyer, Richt, Miles, Tuberville, Saban, and Brooks ahead of him, he's no longer able to win games on talent alone.
He talked about Tennessee losing 5 of its last 7 bowls and how that's unacceptable...he went on to say that it is inexcusable for Tennessee to EVER miss a bowl game...it's not the NFL, there's no reason for a school like Tennessee to EVER have a season without a bowl game.
He said "Tennessee is a fantastic job, and Fulmer's an average coach..average coaches go to average schools like Ole Miss, not Tennessee. Tennessee is an excellent job, it requires and excellent coach."
Again, none of this is particularly insightful, it's just interesting to see that the national media agree with most Tennessee fans...our standards aren't too high, we deserve a winner.
Where was I wrong? Arkansas and Mississippi State both fall far short of the standard I mentioned and you guys are trying to use the likes of Rob Konrad to puff Syracuse.
If you are listing NFL busts, Corey Terry didn't even make it in the CFL. Steve Johnson also didn't have much of a pro career. And one other draftee for Tennessee was Jeff Hall. Face it, NFL success is not required to be a great player in college football.
Love Cowherd and he makes an excellent point that seems to have escaped several people on this board..Tennessee is an excellent job, second to none in terms of tradition and resources. We have the facilites, the money, the fan base, and we deserve better than what we're getting.
