Couple Things Being Reported...

alot of that falls on Brays shoulder. he needs to do a better job of checking in and out of plays.

I agree, that also goes to show people how young this team is. Now Ive also heard that Bray doesnt really
"SOAK" up film study. If thats the case then that hurts the team in the end. If he hasnt been given the power to call a check down, then that goes to immaturity and the coaches not feeling comfortable in him taking the reigns completely.

But at the end of the day, it causes the Running game to suffer.

Oh and Skeeter, I appreciate reading all the "INFO" you and OCI and JMOORE bring to the table about recruits and such. It makes it easy for a guy like me that doesnt have alot of time to get online, to keep up to date on how recruiting is going. Appreciate it guys.

Hard to do for a Play Station QB who only cares about his stats.

I have lost all respect for the kid and it was obvious when Sims came in and started calling the pre-snap adjustments to benefit the running attack.

1.) No more staff changes after Baggett. This means Hiestand stays; this is mind-boggling.
2.) Chaney to quarterbacks coach. Hinshaw to receivers coach.

3.) Jay Graham has already been contacted informally by Tennessee.

4.) Larry Porter won't be a candidate for the RB coach job.

All of this per 247 Sports.

This means next year will be Dooleys last year. This bad dream wont end soon enough.Dooley thinks the problem isnt with the coaches. He is clueless.

Oh look. More of the "Dooley's beyond criticism because he's our coach" stuff.

HAHAHAHAHA, i disagree with the choice to keep certain guys, hes the one that loses his job and you gotta support him not making many changes bc he thinks its gonna work. You can bash him all you want, im done worrying about whether he makes good choices anymore, hes the one whos gonna get fired if $hit doesnt improve. No hes not beyound criticism bc hes our coach, i just said i support his decisions, Not neccessarily him. Its his a$$ on the line.

Well dooleys our coach, gotta respect his decisions rather u like them or not. Alot of stuff goes on we dont know about behind closed doors, and dooley feels good with the coaches. On to the SEC championship dooley. GO VOLS!

I didnt think anything was going on behind close doors. From what we seen on Saturdays tells me theres little or nothing going on.We got a bunch of wanna be coaches at Tn.

Is this the OFFICIAL word? I would like to assume this is a POSITIVE Public Relations Rumor work set for RECRUITING purposes.

haha yeah i didnt type that with alot of confidence, more less just hoping for success next year

Smh at not getting rid of Harry. Keeping him will most likely seal Dooley's fate imo. Hope I'm wrong, but using this season as a measuring stick, we may be even worse in the run game next year.

Congrats SamRebel on the Maryville win the other night. It did look like they got some calls their way though. I noticed one of the refs was from Maryville and guy from work said another guy was from Knoxville.

One more bit on Lane: next year will be the second year removed from ACL surgery. It often takes that long to fully recover. I would hope that his best is yet to come. (My apologies if this was previously stated.)

Just goes to show you what everyone's "inside sources" are worth. Evidently, just tools for people to spread gossip and slander and further their own agendas.

I guess Dooley doesn't want any big changes in his make or break season. That's the only reasoning I can come up with to keep Heinsted.

Check HH's bio, also remember last year freshman, this year soph dominated line. Every kid he has coached through college that started on one of his lines got drafted, every one of them. Hard to play with entire line being that young in this league, but next year if they are not one massive road grader then he should be replaced. Let this staff get their recruits in then judge, I still believe they can get it done. Go Vols!

dooley is untouchable. he could win 4 games and he would be praised by some fans on this site.

Sure, I was just meaning changes that Dooley initiates. I think it's a bad mistake to keep some of the failures he's keeping.

Dooley can't be seen firing his whole staff. That message just permeates a sense of urgency that is going to put unrealistic expectations on the program. He was brought to UT to bring stability. Here you have it. Say we get a premier back behind lane and average 110 yds a game next year, on top of averaging 220 in the passing game. I say thats a great improvement. HH is not the problem, our RB's are the problem. Poole is unbelievable deceitful in his playing style. Some plays he looks great, other plays you wonder how he garnered a scholarship. Let's just see how this pan's out. I think a RB coach will go along way with developing the talent in Lane, and Smith.

The ONLY way Dooley can pull this off with HH coaching the line is for there it be a major scheme change and go man blocking period. The guys they are playing cannot sprint draw or zone block - totally incompetent. I'm hoping that the introduction of the redshirts and Tiny will shake things up enough to see changes in a few positions. On the scheme the RB has to be closer than 8-10 yards from the line of scrimmage and get the ball into his hands quicker. Poole graduating is a plus - no more temptation to fall back on the unproductive senior. The jet sweep needs to go the way of the dodo bird. Power running game with counters, misdirection and counter treys. Some toss sweeps will work if they run the 7 gap and not try to get around the outside contain. The running game needs to have a goal of 4 yards per carry. Let the passing game provide the big plays. Then we can recruit a top RB, we can get back to pounding the rock like Bama and LSU do.

My confidence level is still low - there is just a small flicker of hope to be 7-5 or better next season.

What? I thought losing to UK "permeated a sense of urgency." Unrealistic expectations? Who's expecting Dooley to be really, really good this year? Who's expecting championships? No one. What sitting back and not holding anyone accountable does is permeate a sense of maintaining the status quo, and the status quo will get Dooley fired.

I believe he is holding himself accountable and his staff, He said that himself. He said the loss to UK shouldnt ever had happen and should not happen while he was at UT. I just think that his plan is something we might not ever understand. I'm not saying that the loss to UK was something that shouldn't light a fire under our ass. However, HH like country orange says, is teaching the technique. And that is coming from a Pro Bowl NFL lineman, so I tend to believe that HH is not the problem.

I want to believe in Dooley, and I was left head scratching after that UK game, but this whole year has been weird, given our injuries, and how we were competitive in some games for half of them.

You all put way, way too much stock into what Clifton says. Did you expect him to say Hiestand sucks ass and deserves to be fired? Of course not. Who knows if that's what he really thinks or not.

To the bolded: I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't think Dooley has some sort of mythical plan that is beyond human comprehension for turning the program around. Keeping coaches who clearly aren't getting it done is not the way to improve. I think he's keeping them because he's afraid of the defensive staff leaving, and he doesn't want to replace the whole staff in one offseason.

You could be right, I don't know the answer. All I know is to be a loyal UT fan despite us losing. I have to give them one more year at least. If they don't improve then I would expect changes. Haslam told me Dooley needs time to implement his system, get his personnel right, and recruit 3 full cycles. I thought that was a pretty fair assessment. He never mentioned HH and I asked him what he thought of the problems of the O-line and he said there true Sophomores, what do you expect.

The line wasn't totally to blame for the running game. Poole was horrid.

I am getting tired of everybody blaming Poole. I didn't see ANY of our running backs overachieving this year. Did Marlin Lane break any records or how about the kid from Alcoa? I am sorry but we sucked at the position all year with and without Poole. Maybe it will be better next year

If true then Haslam is not only wealthier than 99% of VN posters he's also smarter than a healthy portion, or at least more patient.
