County Clerk found in contempt......

When she was elected to her job there was no court ruling that was forcing her to preform a service against her religious beliefs.

Fair enough, but.....

No one is forcing her to perform a service against her beliefs. She had the option to resign, she CHOSE not to.

Unless she subject to some special law, she has to comply with legal court orders just like everyone else, again, she CHOSE not to.

She didn't simply show up to work one day and get blindsided with handcuffs. This broad made choices. She's not being persecuted, she's simply experiencing the reaction from her choices.

But she was elected and sworn to perform the duties of the office correct? Didn't say she could go off the page if she disagreed with them if they changed at a later date. I'm sorry, I am all for religious freedoms, but this case does not have a leg to stand on. Either she perform the duties of the office she was elected for, or she step down.

I don't want to club seals. If my boss came to me tomorrow and told me that my job now requires clubbing baby seals, I would quit my job.

Job descriptions change all the time.

Go back through the thread and read my postings. I stated she should resign her job or ask if any of her staff would be willing to issue the license. She would not have to issue a single license personally and still abide by the law and her religious beliefs.

Public - Private. No comparison.

There are already Sheriffs is some states who will not issue carry permits to anyone even though its state law.

I didn't intend for it to be an exact comparison.

I just think it would be interesting to see what her supporters would say in that event.

props to her for having the courage to stick with her convictions, even if they are based in a 2000 year old ethos that is obsolete, dogmatic, and promotes intolerance.

If that is allowed by State law, I agree. I was simply responding to your point about the law changing after she took office.

If this weren't same sex related, how many supporting her would be doing so if it were something she deemed against her "religious beliefs"?

If she knew two people who came in for a license had divorced their spouses so they could get married, and she thought that violated "God's law", would you support her refusing it? If she believed "race mixing" was wrong and violated "God's law", would you support her refusing to issue a marriage license to a biracial couple? If she believed Christians should only marry Christians and refused to offer a license to someone she knew was a Christian that was trying to marry a known atheist, would you say she's in the right to refuse?

Premise is faulty because there is nothing about interracial marriage being against Christian beliefs

She wants her ****ing name off the license, sounds reasonable to me, because her religious beliefs do not sanction gay marriage. Let the ****ing County take her name off the marriage license and move on.

Works for me.

But that is not acceptable to her.

Ask yourself why.

According to whom you are talking to. There are sects of Christianity that still believe races should be separate and 50 years ago it was way more mainstream.

But again, that's kind of moot because I'm asking about HER religious beliefs. Whether they are popular or the majority is irrelevant.

Also, I gave you 3 examples, you only addressed one.

They were liberals as well, and Kennedy doesn't know which way he's swinging nowadays.

Your attempts to saddle the "liberal" SC with fault for this Westboro wannabe's choices is both amusing and sadly, expected.
