Countdown to Armageddon II

Washington, Witten, Stallworth, Stephens, and Clausen... OH MY! Looking back, I almost felt sorry for Bama. ALMOST!

Cockrell, Gault, Coleman, White, ... Oh My!

Earlier, in the summer of '82, CJM walks into an eatery at the Worlds Fair. At some point, the eatery patrons began to chant "BEAT BAMA! BEAT BAMA!"

A few months later, CJM, one of Tennessee's most favored sons, did hand a defeat to the hated crimson tide on TSIO. The win broke an 11 year Bama streak over our Vols. It was the first Tennesse victory over Bama that I can remember. This game would be the Bear's last TSIO.

GBO!

1985 was a bitter-sweet year. The TSIO we lost Tony with a leg injury and got introduced to Daryl Dickey. Dickey would go onto lead the Vols to one of the greatest victories in Tennessee history later that season over the #2 Hurricanes in the Sugar Bowl.

  • The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
  • Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way – SCORE.
  • If at first the game – or the breaks – go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.
  • Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
  • Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.
  • Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
  • Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.
