*Horses way ahead of cart warning but...

With the Hendo draft hype growing and a 1st Round selection becoming a very realistic possibility

And NFL scouts already drooling over the potential of Bazooka Joe's arm and athleticism (see Anthony Richardson)

And Nico Iamaleava waiting in the wings with all the potential in the galaxy

Plus Dobbs in the league currently (and Guarantano too)

With a history of Manning, Martin, Clausen, Ainge, etc.

Could UT be on the verge of being able to reasonably label itself as Quarterback U?

Not sure why any college QB prospect wouldn't want to play for CJH or at least in a QB friendly system like UT's but I'm biased.

Unfortunately, with the ability to transfer and the coaching carousel that occurs every offseason I think the days of labeling a school QBU, WRU, LBU, etc. are long gone. Players want to go where they will play and talent will get you looks by the NFL no matter what school you go to. For sure the SEC is where you want to go with the most players drafted every year for the last 16 years.

I think it is possible. In fact, I think we may be on the verge of becoming "offense U."

Super QB-oriented, for sure. But also the most poorly hidden secret of Josh Heupel's offense is that it's actually very run-oriented. Running backs should be itching to play in this offense as well. And of course receivers. And big-time on tight ends. And linemen, too, because how better to showcase your talents than as part of a high-scoring, run-and-pass balanced juggernaut?

Yep, I think we can likely lay claim to Offense U for the next few decades. Josh & Co are going to remain that good for that long.

Go Vols!

I’m not sure I’ve ever referred to (or heard others refer to) Tennessee as QBU.
UT was often called WR U due to putting serveral at that position in the NFL and seeing them be solid players. Running backs as well (Stewart, Graham, Henry, Lewis, Kamara) , but we’ve really had 1 good NFL quarterback come from here. Shuler was a high draft pick but not a good NFL player.

This is the way I remember it. We were definitely known for wide receivers for a good while. Our quarterbacks have never been big in the NFL as a group. Our running backs didn't have a lot of years in the NFL together.

It's not unrealistic. We need one of the ones coming to be successful in the league. If not, we may tread towards the old Texas Tech and Leach lane of big numbers but no pro potential. There is the Oklahoma route out there though. Big numbers and going first round.

Peyton, Eli and Archie have a show where they discuss incoming NFL players. They were about to discuss Hendo when Eli made a comment that Peyton was the last TN QB to lead a NFL franchise. Hendo will def get that opportunity and hopefully Joe and the future QBs will be quality NFL starters.

It will be hard to hold onto both Merk and whomever we get for ‘25 (presumably Boley or Macintyre) but we could be looking at a string of 4 or more straight 1st or 2nd round qbs.

Never heard anyone regret to UT as qbu. We basically have 1 QB who has accomplished anything of note after college.

Exactly. UT was "Wide Receiver U" for good reason.

As for QBs, who else was in the NFL of consequence other than Peyton?

And, sorry be to be brutally honest, but Hooker *replaced* Milton because he overthrew EVERYONE 2 years ago. Nobody questions Joe's physical abilities, but the jury's still definitely out on him.

This is the truth.

You lost me at Guarantano and quarterback U being used together.

I’m as big of a Casey Clausen mark as you’ll find, but if you’re relying on him as part of your QBU argument, you have a losing argument. He and Dobbs were above average, but every successful P5 program has had guys like them over the last 20-30 years. Martin and Ainge were nothing special. Manning, Shuler, and Hooker were the ones who stood above the rest.

In our entire history we’ve had two drafted in the first 3 rounds, I think. That’s not great.

No offense to anyone, but you younger fellows are missing out on one of the most beloved qbs in our history - second only to Manning I believe - and that conversation is probably closer than you may think-

When were we ever QBU? I mean sure we had Peyton but I always though of USC as QBU
