We can, just need private business and/or individuals to step up. The problem is whatever is done is in addition to whatever they give to the university so they either have to back that down or pay even more. Texas has more NIL money than we do currently from what I’m told but this is all still relatively new and I believe we will have our first seven figure NIL deal soon with a flashy QB commitment coming.
I don’t disagree. The sport is already well down the path of being over as we know it. It’s a shame too. I guess all things change in time. This is just stupid = how are teams like Bowling Green, Tennessee Tech, and others ever supposed to compete ? They can't - It's major league baseball without a draft and without a salary cap to keep things somewhat fair. Which one of you guys have an extra $8,000,000 lying around that you want to donate for linemen for the next 10 years. Do you not realize that we would never be able to compete with some of the schools ?
Let's say we come up with a idiot or group of idiots that will match Texas $800,000 annually for linemen. They would just raise what they pay to $1.6 M annually. You are going to end up with 6 or 8 super teams that purchase all their players and then everyone else. This is no way to run a railroad.
And this is just the beginning. Schools and donors are still working out the operational details of this new reality. Linemen getting 50k..? We're already seeing entire teams getting monthly salaries, "Star" QB's who are already millionaires, etc, etc.We saw this coming. If you didn't, you weren't paying attention.
How are those schools supposed to compete..?? THEY AREN'T...unless of course they pay better than the competition. This is just stupid = how are teams like Bowling Green, Tennessee Tech, and others ever supposed to compete ? YUP...IMHO, in a few years...you won't recognize NCAA Football ( or Basketball either for that matter).I don’t disagree. The sport is already well down the path of being over as we know it. It’s a shame too. I guess all things change in time.
I grew up very poor and definitely would’ve gone where the money was. You can’t blame the kids. This will ruin college football although it will probably keep a bunch of juniors from jumping to the league prematurely
The coaches are just trying to keep up with inflation.Players were already getting paid its just open now. The same players geting 100s/thousands+ in NIL were getting it in Mcdonald bags years ago. Its always a running joke with Bama and their players with new cars but that was a nationwide thing.
What will ruin CFB is the current exponential growth of coahing/AD salaries. 10 years ago for an AD, HC and his staff you could get away with 7-10 million. Now its 20+ million and only going up. Hard to argue not paying players when their coaches and admin are getting this kind of money.
