Could our UT do what the Other UT is with this NIL deal?

So this charity, how much of the money they raise actually goes to helping people in need and how much goes to paying football players?
I don't much care, as I don't live in Texas and I won't be donating, but I took it as they are paying $50,000 to the football player. They are buying the right to use the football player's image and likeness for fundraising. So they aren't exactly needing to tell us right now how good the fundraising is, as they haven't done it yet. It might not be all that great. It may be over 100%, as the people with the $50,000 might turn around and do matching funds. None of my business.

Mostly though it's a legal but also flagrant disguise for paying linemen a salary. It's mostly that.

I have no problem with dudes getting paid ……but a “non-profit?”
Come on…… Is that $800k and the exposure it buys them going to increase the bottom line? And by bottom line I mean food for the needy…because ya know, it’s a nonprofit.

is that advertising power worth $800k because that’d buy a bunch of mashed potatoes haha

Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking money from a nonprofit if I were a player. Just doesn’t sound right.

I don’t disagree. The sport is already well down the path of being over as we know it. It’s a shame too. I guess all things change in time.

The whole premise was built around everyone being more or less an equal footing. We may benefit more than most, but it is incredibly flawed. How will Texas Tech or Baylor compete with Texas ? How will Miss State and Ole Miss
compete with Alabama ? I don't see how they can equalize things without some controls or limits being applied by someone.

Y'all do recall what it was that brought the death penalty to SMU's football program...

I’m still 100% in favor of a VN NIL deal. We could pay each starting offensive lineman $500 per start. So we’d have a total of 32.5k in it for the year assuming we are bowl eligible.

An o lineman who started every game would make 6,500 from VN for the season. It’s not much, but it doesn’t hurt and it’s a number I think we could easily pool together.

The coaches are just trying to keep up with inflation.
Talk about clear bias. People will always find a way to justify the actions of certain people they think are worthy. While they ones they don't care about get nothing. Typical outdated simp behavior.

What in the world are you talking about? You do know it was a joke right?

Glad all of this is being done in the light.

We should have been doing this the moment NIL deals went live. Hopefully our community can step up and save (the real) UT.

I absolutely HATE this. I understand both sides of the argument. I really do. However, I can NOT get over the fact that these kids get to come to college ( most of them never play pro ball ) get a great education that is completely paid for, and still there is more that has to be done to compete. I know paying players has been going on for years under the table and this school did that, or that school did this, but at the end of the day we just did not buy players. I am going to sorely miss the days when a player went to a school because they were a good fit there and they loved being student at that university. I kind of take it personal when I saved money for 18 years to put my kids through college so when he walked, he would be debt free and have a jump start on life. It took sacrifice, discipline, and hard work for a long time to do that, but we made the decision to do it when he was a baby.

Kids now that are great athletes, get free tuition, books, meals, travel, room, and McDonald's bags of cash apparently. The way it used to be, a student that was a stand out athlete got all of that stuff for free because they represented a university in a like way and the benefit to the university was the play of the player on the field. This new " thing " or whatever you want to call is changed this in a dramatic way. I see this new " thing " crashing, and burning, hard. I hope I am wrong but the new " thing " is going to only benefit the schools with the most money, and yes, that is UT. We have plenty of mega boosters, and cash. This is going to turn into a free for all for junior NFL.

I wish I knew a great way to fix it, unfortunately, I do not. I miss the old school days. Just sharing my thoughts. Please save the flames.

This is just stupid = how are teams like Bowling Green, Tennessee Tech, and others ever supposed to compete ? They can't - It's major league baseball without a draft and without a salary cap to keep things somewhat fair. Which one of you guys have an extra $8,000,000 lying around that you want to donate for linemen for the next 10 years. Do you not realize that we would never be able to compete with some of the schools ?

Let's say we come up with a idiot or group of idiots that will match Texas $800,000 annually for linemen. They would just raise what they pay to $1.6 M annually. You are going to end up with 6 or 8 super teams that purchase all their players and then everyone else. This is no way to run a railroad.
They compete now? Lol what world do you live in?

Uh...... Bowling Green and Tennessee Tech were NEVER competing for the same athletes as Texas anyway. Can you imagine a visit to the facilities of Tennessee Tech after visiting the facilities of Texas?

NIL ups the bar for what have already been semi-pro programs like the SEC, B1G, Big 12 but programs like TTech were never paying enough to get real talent anyway.

The non profit was created for active scholarship players to promote charitable events. There's a ton of money in ATX, especially at these charity events. More money is shelled out if there is more to market (player meet n greets). Simple as that.

Some of yall need to stop acting high and mighty over these deals.
