Could JT Shrout play in the last four games?

Like I said if we finish 7-6 this year with JG and he continues to improve the way he has he will be our QB the next 2 seasons. If we finish 4-8 or 5-7 it may change things but not likely. Why would he not start if we finish up 7-6?
Because he doesnt have a very good feel for the pocket and isnt great???

Pretty simple really, it's called recruiting. Do you think coaches recruit the best QB prospect every year? Only 1 guy plays, it's very common for coaches to recruit back ups at the position, see McBride, Worley, Dormandy and Chryst for past reference. If CJP doesn't get a big time 2020 QB then the competition for starting QB will likely come down to Stout and Maurer, I just don't feel like either is the future guy. You must think Stout is the odd man out? If you think it's JG I'd like to know why?
I’m confused as to why you think JG is a factor in 2021’s QB race...and why you keep calling his backup next season “Stout”. I envision JG most likely starting the next two seasons with Shrout backing him up next season with Maurer as an emergency third...like Shrout this season. Shrout and Maurer will compete in 2021 for the starting spot with any future recruits at the position...which is an unknown integer. Appreciation for your attempt to educate me on recruiting aside, no program worth their salt (or trying to become salty) recruits BACKUP QB’s. You get the best guy available every cycle and put them in the mix. None of the names you mentioned were recruited solely for depth (cept Dormandy...we’ve never had a QB named Dormandy), it’s always with the eye of them being a player that may be needed to win games someday...maybe you’re thinking about PWO QB’s? All I know is we know nothing. Facts happen while you’re trying to decide them.

So if we finish 7-6 with a bowl win, something nobody thought we'd do before the season started, and JG plays the entire way you're still going to argue those two deficiencies against what will be some very solid numbers?

What is his win/loss record as a starter??? As you said about "Bo", winning is all that matters isnt it?

Maurer isn’t going anywhere dude. Lol
Remember, there was a time when Guarantano was viewed as the #2 QB in the country but after watching him play last year I don't think anyone would have been surprised if he'd of lost the job to Dormady or Chryst and transferred out. Also, Dormady was the 11th ranked quarterback and he ended up transferring.

Any of these guys, including Guarantano, could lose the job and decide to transfer.

Really, no program recruits backups? You need to check out Alabama's QB roster the last 20 years. I'm in this business, we talk to coaches everyday about QB recruits, they in fact do and will always be FORCED to recruit back up guys as only 1 plays. They try to spread it out so that you always have experience waiting to play but in today's environment transfers are rampant at that position so they are FORCED to recruit backups or they end up with just 2 guys on the roster. See Bama this year and Clemson next season for 2 decent examples. Don't think for a second that the recruits don't know this.

If he had decent protection he would be a top 3-4 QB in the league. He’s only thrown 2 pics through 8 games, which is pretty good for someone who supposedly stares down receivers. His completion % is 64% which is 4th in the league. He also throws the back shoulder sideline throw pretty dang good - not sure why Helton didn’t call more of those vs SC since we torched Auburn with them

I usually agree with your posts but most elite programs recruit QBs with the intention that they will battle for real playing time. If you are recruiting for just "backups" after you get the guy that you think is your starter, then get ready to lose for a LONG time.

I've never once said JG factors into the 2021 season.

Currently, how many teams in the SEC outside if Kentucky and Arkansas would trade starting QBs with us????

Because the ones he did throw were underthrown to the point the receiver almost had to stop. I think he is still banged up

Think people think. Alabama currently has 3 QBs, the 3rd string guy now is a Fr, he'll never be a starter as they have Tuas little brother coming in as well as Bear Bryant's grandson, who also may never play. Bryant's grandson and their 3rd string guy now all just got scholarships or offers earlier this year. Clemson is in the exact same boat. UT has done it for years and it happens at every top program. Only 1 guy gets to play QB and they all try to keep 4 on the roster, it's easy math.

But they dont recruit them as "backups". If they do that and lets say Tuas little brother sucks, now you are set back for at least a couple of years.

Why would hurts not start after leading Bama to 2 straight championships? Why would Kelly Bryant not start? The best player is gonna play regardless of past success.

You just compared our 2 backups to 2 of the top QB recruits to ever commit. Our backups are nothing similar to those 2 guys. The whole point is that JG is the #1 guy on our roster and that's not going to change unless #2 or 3 improve significantly.

Jalen Hurts was not an overly elite recruit. Some services even had him as a 3 star player.
