Could Bray be better than Manning?

When PM played FL, several of those years we had better teams. Like I posted PM was 6 L - 2 W, not very good with the talent we had. PM was a good QB, I've always thought he put too much pressure on himself, over thinking the D in those big games. How good would PM have been with a below average to average ground game. when PM played teams knew they had to stop the Run. what I can't get is why wouldn't anybody want our QB to be better than PM, if he just comes close he will be a great one. Time will tell.

I'm just pointing it out because you've done it multiple times in this thread and sometimes without the L and W.

It is standard practice to say wins - losses and not the other way around. 6-2 looks very good. 2-6 is what you're talking about although I think it's silly to only look at games against teams that finished in the top 10 since beating a team late in the season all but excludes them from finishing that high in many cases.

This whole thread is in the class of "Put the crack pipe down!" - Bray has yet to start a football game outside Tennessee - but this post definitely has the most dope in it.

Manning NEVER had a team better than Florida by any conceivable metric you want to use: NFL players, recruiting stars, All-SEC performers, you name it.

Those were truly Clash of the Titans match-ups. I don't think Bama v LSU these days is even in the same league(although that might be UT homer saying that).

stop it....its too early to tell anything...plus he may not stay for four years like manning and comparing anything right now is like saying he will be a good qb in the NFL...which we all know now, PManning will go down as one of the, if not the, best QB in NFL.

Too early for comparison - lets see what he does this weekend...i am saying he will have at least four td's against these pesky gators..and i will be there to c it..

go vols

How much money does EB get if he never plays another down?

I get it. In your book an education is meaningless.
Rogan and countless others who didn't make it throughout the years and didn't earn a degree are well off based on your logic. You focus on exceptions to the rule, I focus on the rule.

Not trying to knock Bray, but I don't think he has the work ethic Manning had, the desire to improve, the extra work with receivers, working on timing, etc. Especially the mental parts of the game; studying film, studying opponents, breaking down defenses, checking plays etc. Just a different mentality.

How can you assume this? I've heard he's a pretty hard worker.

Besides, being great is not all about how much/how well you study.

Bray beating UF would not be the same as Peyton beating UF. Different times, vastly different teams. If we beat UF this weekend, we will be ranked, if Peyton beats UF, we are probably national champs.

Bray has the physical tools to be better, but not sure yet about mentally. Peyton is above average physically and athletically, but is off the charts mentally.

heres the deal if bray wins a natty title yes hes better than peyton if he wins a heisman hes better if he wins 2-3 sec championships hes also better but heres the deal peyton manning captivated UT fans hearts with his love for the university so until Tyler Leads the band and eats breathes and sleeps the VOLS hes not going to be a BETTER VOL

The florida teams manning faced were superior to this years UF team. While PM was here UF went 10-2 11-1 11-1 and 10-2. That being said Manning lost only 1 game his entire career he shoulda won. For the poster saying he didnt beat anyone. He lost a total of 5 games and 2 or 3 of those were to the national champions. while amassing a recored of 39-5, And beating almost everyone on the schedule. There's no doubt in most or minds that PM would have beatin plenty of ranked teams had he had the oppertunity to play them. Only the most elite teams in the country beat him.

On the Bray to Manning Comparison... I'll Say this. The vary first time I ever saw Kobe Bryant play I said thats the next MJ. He may not have made MJ status yet but he's close enough...After seeing Bray this season I have no problem saying he is the next PM. He may not ever quite reach PM status, but he's gonna be D$mn close. It's not about the stats, but about the look of the person on the feild, and his passes. Watching PM play is a thing of beauty his passes are so precise and perfect you just look at them in awe. TB has that same look this past weekend was where it was most evident. His passes were perfect in many cases, and you just watch in awe as to how good he can be. If he keeps it up this year he'll be the next best thing to PM or a little better and thats good enough for me........GBO,VFL

Sounds like I am agreeing with you. I don't believe a win against Florida now is the same as when Peyton played. When I said, "people will say....", I am including myself.

Do you think 6 -2 is a good record with some of the teams we had back then?

In 1994 Vols were 1-3, before Manning became the starter and 7-1 afterwards, with the rest of the team being basically the same.

One of the big reasons we had such "good teams back then" was because of the quarterback. Plus Tennessee's success while Peyton was QB helped Fulmer lure in more great recruits leading to the 1998 National Championship.

This is easily one of the more ignorant thread of all time in the history of message boards. Bray hasn't won one big game and you are asking if he might be better than Peyton Manning?

Let him finish a full season with starts against the SEC big boys before you start annointing him anything.

Chances are he won't be in the same sentence with Condredge Holloway, much less Peyton Manning

:spank:

So with Tyler Bray lighting up the competition so far and will probably smash all of UTs passing recoreds. If he beats the Gators as Manning never did would he be considered ''Better'' then Manning as a college QB!!

Let him do it for the Vols for 3 years and then we"ll re-visit your questions again. . .! :lolabove:

Its way too early to tell. Could Bray be better than Manning? Possibly but there are many many more games to be played to determine that. Lets just enjoy whatever wins he gives us. I hope that one of the wins is this weekend . If he wins it wont mean he is the greatest and if he loses it wont mean he is the worst.

Couldn't this question have come up after having Bray start (not even win...just actually start) against a legit SEC defense?

Shouldn't we already be wondering if Cam Newton is going to the NFL Hall of Fame based on, you know, how good his first game was?
