I think he's just an a**hole politician (apparently his neighbor and many other members of Congress agree)...but admiring him is your right. Rand Paul's only goal is to score political points, so he's naturally trying to create a narrative that runs opposite of the mainstream view on vaccines because it stokes his base...and he's going to lean on his medical credentials that have zero to do with virology because he knows some gullible folks will eat it up. You need a vaccine AND treatments. Arguing for one against the other is ridiculous. He is less "biased" than Fauci. He has challenged the establishment on the SCIENCE... more than the politics though the latter is a big problem too.
FWIW, Paul is STILL a practicing doctor and treats people for charity. He understands medicine broadly and that therapeutics like one Pfizer (I believe that's the right company) is trying to get approved now were the better course to save lives. Fauci poured our "hopes" and MONEY into a vaccine against a virus that has eluded a vaccine solution forever. Coronaviruses are responsible for about 25% of colds. How long has medicine been looking for a cold vaccine or cure?
LOL... his neighbor IS a liberal a-hole.I think he's just an a**hole politician (apparently his neighbor and many other members of Congress agree)...but admiring him is your right.
Right. Let's dismiss the guy who has been willing repeatedly to go against the narrative, media, and his own party (and been proven right over time) as a political hack. Nothing could be further from the truth. He may be wrong. But he's one of the few credible guys in Washington.Rand Paul's only goal is to score political points, so he's naturally trying to create a narrative that runs opposite of the mainstream view on vaccines because it stokes his base...and he's going to lean on his medical credentials that have zero to do with virology because he knows some gullible folks will eat it up. No offense but that is a stupid manipulation of what I DID say in an attempt to construct a strawman. So what are you arguing against? Coronaviruses ARE the cause of about 25% of common colds. The common cold has cost trillions in lost work days and production over the decades. Researchers have long known the value of a vaccines to prevent either the Coronavirus or Rhinovirus from causing the common cold.... they just haven't been able to develop one that works. No offense, but "Coronaviruses are responsible for about 25% of colds. How long has medicine been looking for a cold vaccine or cure?" has got to be the dumbest argument I have ever heard against COVID vaccines. You're downplaying COVID by comparing it to a common cold right after talking about needing treatments to save people from it.
Not leaning on Paul. Leaning on FACTS. The vaccines are failing us and this isn't the first time Fauci pushed for vaccines when the better course was therapeutic drugs. People today are living with HIV and even reaching a point where they can no longer spread it. The vaccine push... never produced a solution. Paul, a doctor, like many other doctors recognizes that Fauci has a strong bias toward vaccines but that the most promising way out of Covid is treatments that prevent severe symptoms and death coupled with the cultivation of natural immunity.Yeah...no point in continuing a discussion with you on this subject. We'll never agree. You lean on Rand Paul and I'll keep leaning on the hospital executive I know who helps run three hospitals and multiple urgent care centers.
Yeah the new variant has made most monoclonal therapy obsolete. Only evushield and sotrovimab have retained ability to work and evushield was only given EUA 3 weeks ago and sotrovimab was hard to come by even before omicron.Just heard the antibody therapy isn't available here for at least a week, and peeps under 65 probably can't get it now. It made a huge difference for my dad, and my son's mother-in-law.
What sort of a healthcare provider? I don’t know any physicians who would call Fauci a hack.Doubt it. Betting they have one good player out. I’m so over the cancellations. The rest of the world is moving on. I know there are posters here who will vehemently disagree, but it’s time.
It’s endemic. The new variant is less virulent and more contagious (a good thing). It’s time to live your lives and enjoy them. Stop listening to cable news and that hack Fauci (look up his role with AZT in the 80s/90s. He’s a verified murderer.)
I’m a healthcare provider and have been in the midst of it for two years. Have yet to see what there is to be so frightened about, even when I was sick with COVID myself. The worst part of it was the fear and anxiety thinking you’re going to get incredibly sick and die when you know you’ve got it. In reality it’s a non issue for 99.8% of people. Those getting severely ill are already severely ill from other diseases. Particularly poorly cared for Type II DM.
The narrative needs to be “care for your body so it will care for you!”
This is complete ownage.LOL... his neighbor IS a liberal a-hole.

Fauci IS wrong... and people are dying because of it.

I'm not downplaying anything. I am saying that if decades could not produce a vaccine to prevent Coronavirus colds then months won't do it for Covid. Covid is obviously the more severe disease. But both are caused by versions of Coronavirus.
Did you look at the state data I posted earlier? I would be curious if your hospital exec friend will parrot the narrative on acquired natural immunity. Again, I'm letting the facts speak for themselves. In almost two years just over 1% of those who recovered from Covid have been reinfected. Just since the first vaccine sequences were completed over 2.5% of the fully vaxed have contracted Covid... and that number is growing DAILY. The reported number is up .15% just since I started engaging you guys in this thread.
So the two strategies are these:
Paul- pour time and money into therapeutics understanding the history and nature of Coronaviruses. Develop effective drugs to treat symptoms and prevent severe cases that may lead to death. The starting points for these drugs were not novel and relied on established, safe science. SO the first job... is to save lives and suffering. The unknown at the start which has become a known is the level of protection the human immune system would provide against Covid.
Fauci- pour money and time into vaccine research knowing that vaccines will not save anyone from severe infection or death until they can be implemented. The starting points were controversial. mRNA vaccines had previously been used on animals but not humans. The results were leaky vaccines that prior research proved CAN cause more virulent viral mutations creating a MORE deadly strain... like Delta. The first priority was not the lives of people but the "science" and his preferred strategy.
It isn't so much about personalities or your dislike of Paul or my mistrust of Fauci. One is a reasonable solution that we can now surmise would have saved lives. The other is turning public health into a personal science experiment.
There was a somewhat valid argument early. "So you just want to let people get Covid knowing many will die so that others can develop natural immunity?" However that doesn't hold water if you develop effective treatments for Covid cases. We had (hopefully still have) an opportunity to both save more lives AND work toward herd immunity through the human immune system. It is long past time to change course. Fauci's vaccine dream failed.
@utvols83 This is an illustration of what I posted earlier. The drugs to keep people alive and from being injured by severe symptoms should have been the FIRST priority. The vaccines should have been an afterthought... but in truth would have likely never been worth the investment... much less the political conflict they've caused.Yeah the new variant has made most monoclonal therapy obsolete. Only evushield and sotrovimab have retained ability to work and evushield was only given EUA 3 weeks ago and sotrovimab was hard to come by even before omicron.
Hopefully paxlovid production can be ramped up quicker. Wish the government would go to Pfizer and say what do you need to get 50 million doses ready by next month and not just 1 million as planned. Afraid that this medication is going to be a available a month too late
We could also discuss the THOUSANDS of people who went blind when our surgeries were cancelled for 6 months in 2020.
Shall we go there? Because I can assure you permanent blindness is far more debilitating that COIVD-19.
This vaccine is ineffective at both preventing infection and reducing how contagious an individual is. It does reduce symptoms for HEALTHY people. Which is the key here. If you’re a 65yo, Type II diabetic with an A1c of 13.5 and peripheral artery disease your vaccine isn’t going to matter.

This is BIG NEWS.
After December 31, 2021, the CDC will withdraw the use of the PCR test for COVID-19 testing. The CDC finally admitted the test does not differentiate between the flu and COVID virus.
Via the CDC website:

In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season. This explains the disappearance of Flu cases in the US in 2020. It also inflated the COVID cases as Dr. Fauci and the DC elites knew would happen.
QUIETLY WITHOUT MEDIA ATTENTION, THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION (CDC) HAS WITHDRAWN THE PCR PROCESS AS A VALID TEST FOR DETECTING AND IDENTIFYING SARS-COV-2.Advertisement - story continues below“After December 31, 2021, CDC will withdraw the request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, the assay first introduced in February 2020 for detection of SARS-CoV-2 only.”The CDC admits that the PCR test cannot differentiate between SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.I reported several months ago that the “health authorities” had reached this decision but were withholding its implementation until the end of 2021. They needed the fake test to keep the fear going in order to achieve as much vaccination, and therefore as much profit, as possible. It is extraordinary that the CDC’s withdrawal of the test received no attention from the media or politicians.Dr. Kary Mullis, Nobel Laureate and inventor of the PCR process said several years ago that “the PCR is a process. It does not tell you that you are sick.” It was never meant to be a Covid test.
Vaccinated Isn't Enough: Omicron Carries the Risk of Long Covid
Living with someone (who was otherwise young and healthy) with long COVID for 18+ months now (who is just one of some 9+ million Americans), I think you're way off base here. Or for a very relevant example, see Asia Durr's story: Cleared to play, Asia Durr still dealing with flare-ups after 'worst case' of long-haul COVID
Don’t understand this false dichotomy of vaccine only strategy or therapeutics only to combat covid. Both are needed and have received ample funding through OWS. Not aware of Fauci or any other government agency blocking research on paxlovid or other effective covid therapies like monoclonal antibodies while they advocated for vaccine development. For historical reference it took about 12 years from when hiv was first discovered for the first protease inhibitor to be approved for hiv. Much longer for hepatitis c. It took only 2 years for paxlovid which is a protease inhibitor to get EUA approval.@utvols83 This is an illustration of what I posted earlier. It relates to strategy and how the earliest and most resources are committed. I didn't say either/or. But Paul points to a tendency of Fauci's which others have affirmed. The time to pursue vaccines should have been AFTER throwing maximum resources at treatments to save lives. That was a strategy with both long and short term benefits.Don’t understand this false dichotomy of vaccine only strategy or therapeutics only to combat covid. Also vaccines haven’t been worth the investment?
