So I'm wrong? Usually when the parents are not married the child has the mothers name. Since the baby's last name is Reeves-Maybin I thought it likely he was married. What does any of this have to do with 1940?

No you are right about it all, I was being silly, like the first time 1940 was mentioned. But, the reason for the 1940 comments, is to reference that the thought, since he has fathered a child, he is married, or that the baby has his last names, he is married, This is an old fashion line of thinking as if we are in the 1940's.

It all good.

Go Vols!

It's all good. I've seen the 50's associated with this good old fashion family values more than the 40's so it just felt random to mention 1940. My assumptions were more logistical than stodgy.

I'm sure this "holier-than-thou" crowd never had sex before marriage or in college. The 1940's "where it was wrong to have a kid out of wedlock, but perfectly fine to make another race go out back to eat at a restaurant, move to the back of a bus, or were made to seem inferior if you weren't white" great times those were.

Congrats JRM for stepping up to the plate and being a father!

I was using the same time frame as an earlier poster, for comedic purposes. I'm not sure when it became hip to father children out of wedlock, it wasn't hip back it the 80's and not so much in the 10's either, at least when I go to church.

Fatherhood is a wonderful thing, rich with many blessings, but poor of money and time.

Makes the choice to come back to school even more of a surprise IMO

I was thinking the same thing. His financial responsibility just grew significantly so the lure of an NFL contract had to really weigh on him. But I am glad he is coming back and really hope he is a good father to this baby.

Well if it was he wouldn't be able to be on the team, or go to the same school, etc...

Ooohh, truth. Sometimes our "romantic notions" of the good ole' days have a head on collision with reality. Hard to believe some of the ugly recent past that we have as a nation. Almost all of us but the oldest ones hear only can relate to this with a history book or a story. Crazy.

Anyway, congrats to JRM! Huuuge day when you hold that first one in your hands (literally). Mind blowing. Thanks for being a Vol!
