I really think Napier is in over his head at this point. He may grow into it but his game management/decision making is mind boggling. The 4th down conversions today were an anomaly and he’s already sealed one game as a L by going for it in a terrible spot. The decision to go for 2 down 11 (38-27) made no-sense and ultimately cost his team an opportunity to tie the game at the end and sealed the loss. No analyst has been able to explain or understand it, other than if he’s down 9 a TD and FG win it vs tying it. But I’ve never seen a coach think like that and that far ahead. He outsmarted himself trying to be cute. The better team won.
1) The obvious difference in the game was Hooker. We made it easy on a couple of those long throws for you. It was more his elusiveness and turning what should have been 5 yard losses into 30 yard gains.
2) The officiating was absurdly bad. Comical at times. Either you have some mechanical issues there with the clock or the clock operator has issues.
3) You wont like this but I am not prepared to say that UT has long term turned the corner in terms of the rivalry. Just not sure UT has that much more upside potential talent wise whereas UF has significantly more potential.
4) Agree with those who say that UT should have blitzed a lot more than you did.
5) Richardson is a puzzle. Clearly enormous athletic talent. Just not able to consistently connect with receivers. Many balls wide of the mark or well overthrown.

I don't think anyone would dispute that, and their floor isnt near as low as Tenn, but he basically shrugged the idea that UT may have turned the corner and will be a better program than Florida because of potential upside. Ok? Florida has as much upside as almost anyone in the country and they have not been very good for awhile. To an extent. If I wasn’t a UT fan and you asked me which school was easier to recruit to, it would be UF. Especially with FSU and Miami being trash.

If Heupel is a winner and Florida can't find "the right guy" then he will beat Florida with more consistency than his predecessors
Yeah, man. Our defense (at least the secondary) is horrible. I'm hoping these DB recruits coming in next year can contribute.Congratulations as well.
Florida needs to get on the trail and recruit a whole bunch of talent.
And if Tennessee wants to win championships, they have to do something about that defense.
I get it, not wanting to turn the ball over, but Florida had not stopped us all night. We had 0 punts all game. Just have the offense keep doing what it's doing.Great learning point for heupel. Never sit on ball against uf, uga, bama,lsu.....for starters. Not good rule thumb period. Especially when defense is porous

Sadly you're right. We, or Florida, might get lucky and win one of those games. But like you said, it's two to three years of top 5 recruiting to catch up to them talent wise, if not longer.Fact is, talent wise UT, UF, KY, and every other also ran in the East is LIGHT YEARS behind UGA and also ALA.
To be competitive at their level would take any of us two to three years of top 5 classes.

Honestly I would rather give up the occasional big play being aggressive, getting sacks and causing turnovers than to have the death by a thousand paper cuts that our defense was today. Our offensive production should be freeing up our DC to be more aggressive, but what we are seeing is very vanilla so far. I would think with a guy like Richardson, who has been very erratic leading up to today, you'd want to apply more pressure to him...not sit back and allow him to get comfortable.Happy for the team they got the win but whoa, that defense was a train wreck 95% of the game. Tackling high, quitting before the runner down, coverage way too soft. They did better when pressuring the QB, he's a strong guy but not terribly accurate when pressured. Gave up how many 3rd or 4th and forever plays? The zone was a joke, too many guys running open, better to take the risk, play some press man and get after the QB.
Hopefully Banks spends the next two weeks working on that.
