30-27 OT. BYU beats Southern Cal
57-10. Western Michigan beats Georgia State

First one makes me feel a little better....but, that other one....oh my.

Most want to give the Vols and the coaching staff a "Mulligan" on Georgia State. I do not prescribe to that point of view. That being said, BYU is a pretty good football team. Still should've won. Gave it away!

Can you imagine how fired up this fan base would be sitting 3-0 (like we should be), heading to the Swamp, with Florida reeling in light of their injury woes and lack of running game?

Instead, well.....you know the story.

Don't worry. By Thursday evening 80% of this board will still have worked themselves into such a frenzy that they'll be confident Tennessee comes out of the swamp winners.

The Vols totally sucked A** Ga St game from coaches to entire team didn't look like they had ever practiced, it was like they went stands put together
a team to play Sat, Vols looked more ready and focused BYU game did some good things with exception QB JG, was and is a liability and will continue
to hold this team back should 3-0...………………….

Kee blaming everyone BUT JG who turned over to the team and the opposing team got points off of them. Same narrative as last year, blame everyone but him.
There is plenty of blame to go around; however, if you don't think the defense cost us more in both of those games, well....

ROCK < PAPER < SCISSORS < ROCK

It's the nature of competition in any good sport, and it's factors are multiplied by the number of participants during the game. We fans think in terms of seasons, but each game is its own war. For participants, there is no season--only the next war and what can be learned from the last war.

As for what happened Saturday to BYU and GS...
BYU is a mature team (older and more mature players) and more likely to build on their success.
GS was more likely to have done what college kids are prone to: believe what they read about themselves all week and then "stand" on their success, as if achievement has its own carryover.

I'd also guess* a Mormon institution is more likely than the general culture to view pride as deceptive and potentially a character flaw, whereas the general athletic culture (including GS?) might emphasize pride as a strength to be cultivated.

* But I'm neither a football coach nor a Mormon, so that's based on what my friends who are either tell me.

JG easily cost us 14 points in both games if not more but ok. I guess the defense has to make up for the QB’s mistakes all the time.
By your way of thinking, JG is responsible for making up for the defense getting shredded on the ground all night by GA State and a busted coverage with seconds left to send a game into OT. Like I said, there is plenty of blame to go around.

BYU would have not gone to OT if not for JG, busted coverage or not.
