Concerns for Vols as Cal game looms

I really think this defensive front will be much better than anticipated.

Definitely. Antonio Reynolds and X-Man will have their way with Cal's Tackles most of the game. Mapu is back in shape and Bolden is a beast. The starters will be phenomenal, IMO. The only thing concerning about the DL is depth. And we are building that right now.

Well...you're more confident than I am. I would say that Cal's o-line is average...and I'm not convinced that our ends are so much better than average that they will be in the backfield all day. Our linebackers could greatly help with that situation, though. And, Xavier Mitchell may have a big day.

Tennessee seems to play better on the road. Cal is gonna want some revenge, but I think Tennessee has the mental advantage going into this game. Id much rather start off the year with Tennessee Tech , but hey we cant all get a schedule like florida, LSU, & USC at least we will be battle tested when we go into the swamp.

Cal's oline is well above average. Mack is one of the top 2 or 3 centers in the country and gibson was all pac-10 last year. Tepper was a beast in the second half of last year. edit: and tepper and gibson didn't even play against tenn last year btw.

So they played against crappy Pac-10 D's. Wait till they meet the big boys. (I'm talking about UTK)

It's just the mystery of so much unknown at this time that causes so much unrest, by this time next week (whether we win or lose) it will be much better on all the vol fans, because we will know at least what kind of team we have for this season. GO VOLS BEAT THE BEARS!:eek:k:

A&M said the same thing, how we couldn't handle a big-12 running game, and how their dline would dominate our soft oline. WHOOPS.

The only thing that concerns me is losing Cottham, I dont know how much of a drop-off there will be there or if any at all, but I heard he was gonna be a big part of the offense & Brown is good but he sometimes disappears out there.

Hahaha... I have been reading quite a bit on here and it's the same old argument. Plain and simple, these Pac 10 apologists don't realize that smash mouth football is played here in the south. They were lucky we weren't at our strength and dominance with the D-Line and Running game as we have been in year's past. That whipping last year was a preview of things to come.

Apples and oranges, bro. Tennessee didn't have any trouble with A&M a couple of years ago, and we played our third-string quarterback all game. Check it out: it was 28-0 at halftime. That might have a familiar feel to you.

Here to help. :)

Whin Cal runs it will be between the tackles our outside speed last year will make them make adjustments if we defend this look for a UT blowout.

Good takedown.

I suppose that I should have qualified what I said a little better. I think that cal's o-line is typical of a good SEC team, a line that I would respect. Our competition is usually pretty stiff, so average to me is probably good. I meant that statement to mean the o-line of Cal was something to be respected...and something that I worry a bit about our d-line getting good penetration on.
