1) I only run Mac OS about 5% of the time

2) If you are having to replace your Macbook Pro every 18 months you are downloading way too much porn. I had a Powerbook for 3 years, beat the hell out of that thing and it still runs just fine.

I use my laptops for our photography business and some other production jobs...Mac's and PC's seem to last about the same length of time the way that I'm using them...

I was running final cut pro (on a regular basis) on my PowerBook and it still lasted over 3 years

Seriously, after doing that a few times, you'll start to skip the headache of trying to determine the issue, and spend 30 mins to an hour doing a reformat.
