Compare to Freeze?

Its happening right now with McElwain in year 1 at Florida. But let me guess... We're still rebuilding, we're young, Derek Dooley, Lane Kiffin... Did I miss anything?

not much...McElwain is doing a good job w/ UF this year...better than many anticipated. The last minute win against our guys was enough to give them the momentum to think they can do anything...which is something in and of itself. Plus, he can be as loose and aggressive as he wants to be...it's his first year and he'll get away with almost anything on the field.

but...you've got to admit the UF rebuild isn't really comparable w/ UT's.

I've said before - that D is going to put them in a position to win almost every weekend, which means he really didn't have to tweak that side of the ball.

as bad as everyone thinks it was, UF was 13 points and a missed game against Idaho from being an 11 win team last year...they had a fair share of boneheaded plays on O.

Both Mc and Nussmeir (his OC now) won championships at UA as OC's....two minds like that were enough to make a mediocre offense, serviceable.

So because he has had success at Memphis, he will automatically succeed at SC? No disrespect but thats faulty logic. Why do you just assume that about Fuente? I am just curious. Is he a good coach? Yes. Does that mean he would walk into the East and be a force? Absolutely not. I am personally not afraid of Fuente at all. Nor would I be afraid if we played Memphis this year.

Same logic people use for why Jones will be successful here

Outside of that his start there is similar to Jones at UT.

Jones just logged his second, lifetime, win over a ranked team.

Freeze at Ole Piss has what, 5, wins over top ten teams?

Like peas in a pod they are.

So we have had the kind of talent on both sides of the ball that Florida has had say the past 5-6 years?

No, but the talent we have on both sides of the ball is relatively comparable to what Florida puts on the field now, and with a coach in year 3 of the program versus year 1.

Also, I am sure Memphis didn't have comparable talent to Ole Miss either, yet they actually showed up for their big game. And won. As a significant underdog.
Tennessee flops most of the time in those situations. Lets be honest please.

Transitive property doesn't work when trying to predict which team will win games .....but it very much works when trying to figure out which coaches will win games. Typically, if a coach wins games at one school at a high level, he will win games at another school at a high level. Think Spurrier, Meyer, Saban...hell, even McElwain at this point.

Think U Conn coach Flavor of day fired at Maryland
Think Rutgers coach chopping wood........Flavor of day fired at Miami
I could go on these flavors bomb more than hit, that's why they take the $$$$ and run.

it's called credit. if ole miss fans are pissed, fine. but a guy that's beat Bama twice in a row, and is competitive with every other rival you have, i think he should have some credit built up.

the thing all of the SEC fan bases have to get thru their big heads is htat you can't beat everyone every year.

it does actually take some time to build up a track record. i think Freeze's is pretty good.

BBAANNKK...that's my buzzer = wrong sound

He has 4 - only 1 of which was in the top 10 at the end of the season (UA will most likely be #2.....but the seasons not over yet)

Of the 6 top 25 teams Ole Miss beat under Freeze - 3 were ranked at the end of the season.

Freeze is a good recruiter and coach. I personally don't believe any offense with out a decent running game will be consistent in the SEC. TAM is the sameway. They score a lot of points or hardly any at all.

Uhhhh.....okay?

They would go 4-4 in the SEC at best. That was their Super Bowl today. It is different when the SEC is your routine.

They won their Super Bowl.

Maybe the 4-4 comment is close, maybe not. The facts are that Memphis has not lost in over a year and very well may win out this year and has done so against reasonable competition. In fact, Memphis has exactly as many ranked teams on their schedule this year as does UT.

The American Athletic Conference will go 2-2 against the SEC this year with a 3 point loss to Missouri and a 7 point loss to Florida.

It's just how it is.

If you don't mind, please list?
I see where we have 4/5 depending on the method, but did not see this with Memphis? Maybe a mistake by me?

Randy Edsall, flavor of the day?!! He was 52 years old when Maryland hired him and had a 74-70 record at UConn. It was a head scratcher hire if anything.

He WON at UConn!...whilst transitioning them from a middling I-AA team to a BCS berth. He was a hot candidate when Maryland snagged him. He simply failed at Maryland...end of the science there. See John L. Smith and Dennis Franchione for similar stories. :hi:

I know he did a great job transitioning UConn and the BCS berth was great where they lost and finished with the good record of 8-5. When I think flavor of the (month) day, I think of young hot shot coach that has been on the job less than 4 years where they look good and win big. You're just not sure in the long run they can maintain that or recruit well enough, because they win with a roster of mostly the previous coaches players.
