You do realize that Arkansas finished shutting out LSU and ole miss right? They were as hot as anyone at the end of the year. Ole Miss also faced a pissed off TCU that would've hung 50 on UT in the bowl
He's beaten a top 2 Alabama squad both of the last 2 years.
You do realize that's bigger than ANY win Butch has ever had, right?
You think beating Iowa in the meaningless Taxslayer bowl is better? You are fighting a losing battle.
Freeze is clearly the better COACH. As a matter of fact, I'd say he's closer to Butch in recruiting than Butch is to him in coaching.
Butch is our coach. He'll have plenty of games to prove that he deserves to be here. But you're arguing silly stuff in a losing battle.
OM is not going to get +5 turnovers in all their games against quality opponents. They'll have a good season but I doubt they win the west.
Ole Miss was handed 31 points. 3 turnovers(2 on kickoffs) 17 points and a 14 point swing on really bad decision to heave it aka Peterman. Not to mention, the quick throw while crossing the line of scrimmage.
The same gambling which won this will cost them other games. Plus, Alabama is not the Alabama of old. Poor QB play. Let the season play out.
PS: West lost all there bowl games last year and is way overrated vs East. That will begin to play out this year. Will take a year or two for perception to catch up.
Go Vols!
Wow, some seriously good effort at keeping the average IQ around 100 on this board. Freshman are 18 year-old kids. Occasional exceptions, but most (even 4-5 stars, and especially linemen) need a year or two to be competitive against 21-22 year olds. How this isn't self-evident is beyond me. A mature, successful program doesn't take its 2 top 5 recruiting classes in a row and try to win conference titles with a bunch of freshmen. It sticks their butts on the bench, in a strength program, with liberal use of redshirts, to learn from 4-5 stars that are now redshirt sophomores and juniors and seniors. It's been said 1000000 times - CDD didn't recruit a SINGLE OL one of his years, and if people can't understand the hole we've been in the past 3 years on the OL and how it doesn't matter if you have 10 star skill players, you aren't going anywhere without a serious OL in this league - really no hope for you. Everyone is tired of being down, but it is no excuse for stupid rants about being tired of the excuses. CBR's first recruiting class was barely his - and nobody with a brain could not see the following 2 were stellar and at an entirely different level. In 2016 that group of kids will be in their second and third years in the program, in 2017 third and fourth years - a much higher level of talent top to bottom - like what we've seen at Bama for more years than I care to remember. Bama hasn't been winning so consistently playing true freshman and sophomores. CDD took us to the Bill Battle days from a roster standpoint. CJM was never the coach some reinvent him to be, but look at how long it took him to recover somewhat from Battle.
CBJ isn't perfect and doesn't walk on water - jury definitely still out on offense and game management. But this whole "tired of the excuses" internet tough guy thing is infantile, like 2 year olds screaming I want what I want. Makes VN sometimes a hard place to lurk around.
Let us know when Jones posts a 9 win season, gets Tennessee to a Top 10-15 ranking and beats Alabama 2 years in a row....then we can talk.
Precisely. I am not a coach worshiper. Butch Jones beat Georgia, but went conservative once he regained the lead, and almost gave up a game tying touchdown. Butch Jones is not the coach Hugh Freeze or Justin Fuente is... Let's not kid ourselves.
Georgia game was definitely big, was an excellent, much needed win. Problem is, we've had 4 big games to date and we've lost 3 of them. But, taken by itself, the Georgia game was definitely big.
Georgia game was definitely a must win in terms of temporarily settling the fan base if only for a few weeks
