Colorado transfer CB Colton Hood commits to UT

Why do they always say how many years left to play. That means absolutely nothing in today’s college game. Here today, gone tomorrow.
It means he is. Not a Senior and if he balls out, we have a good chance of keeping him. I like the pickup and he is probably a step up from any of the ones we lost.

One of the best posts on here in a while. A friend of mine couldn't stand Martinez due to him constantly recruiting short DBs! I do feel like it is an advantage for DBs to be taller due to the taller WRs out there! However, if this guy is 6.1, he is taller than the average DB which is supposedly around 5.11.
OP says 5.11. I thought we were focused on taller guys recently. But, this guy plays football, baseball, basketball, and track, so maybe the athleticism compensates for height.

I just watch an insane amount of college football outside of the vols and trust my instincts. This guy is a legit lockdown corner. Go look at any social media page and see how upset Colorado fans are.

If he was a lockdown corner why wasn't he one of the starting corners for Colorado and why didn't he play more snaps for Colorado?

Based upon my quick google search it appears that Colorado was on TV 5 games.... With your game watching and "instincts" you should be working for a top-level college or NFL program instead of posting in a public chat board. Are you the guy that said for years that Josh Dobbs was going to be a starting QB for an NFL franchise and that he would excel in the NFL as a starting QB?

FYI - Hood was the 68th best Corner in the Portal according 247 --- 52nd best Corner in the Portal per On-3, but the heck do they know.

I have no idea how good, bad or indifferent this player will turn out to be. But I do know he was not a "starter" at a middling program in a middling conference and was not highly touted transfer in the Portal. To say he is an NFL draft pick is a W-A-G!

As I said before, I hope he develops into a high round NFL draft pick but you are reaching. And I don't care what other fan bases say about a player --- I'm not looking at other teams social media or fan pages to gauge whether a player is good, bad or indifferent.

The downside, perhaps, is that it's a package deal apparently. His brother Brandon and his cousin Trent might or might not take spots that could be better used by other players but it seems they want to move as a group.

I posted above whether the brother, a running back, was joining Colton in Knoxville.

Dont you know the brother is an NFL draft pick as well - based on my instincts?? lol

So you are the one predicting that Colton Hood will be an NFL draft pick - got it.......

Hey I hope this player becomes a high round NFL draft pick - that would be great for TN (or other school he may transfer to in the future) and for the player.

I said nothing about his attributes or abilities - only restated that he had a total of 24 tackles in this past season as noted in the initial post.
Good.. we need experience in the secondary.

He seems like a one year guy chasing the money. 3rd stop going into his third year. Well make good use of him
He said Colorado was just too far from home. That's why he was in the portal for the second time. He was chosen to be Hunters replacement, but he ultimately chose to get closer to home. Doesn't sound like a money grab to me. Heupel is not into that anyway.

That is hilarious! What about the tackles made by the corners that the other guys in the secondary didn't cover? What about the tackles behind the line of scrimmage or near the line of scrimmage when they sometimes help with the run? Not all tackles that corners make is due to them not being a good defender on the guy they are covering, especially in a zone defense!

Didn't you know that 95% of the posters on this site are experts and 95% of the posters on this site are wrong which means it's normally the same group. Even better are the ones that say don't listen to that guy/girl but you should listen to me.

Volnation is an interesting paradox:

"I hate this free agency with guys transferring all the time. No loyalty. It's ruining college football...."

Upon picking up Colton Hood, who will be on his 3rd school in 3 years, "Great get....."
Bet you’ve never once in life complained about something that benefitted you at another time O holy one. It’s kind of what people do. It’s good when it’s good but bad when it’s bad. Kind of like we’d all love to stop paying taxes tomorrow but still want to drive on nice, smooth, well manicured highways and interstates?

Really wonder what players think about THAT coach. Not sure if he thought it thru after the initial ROSTER FLUSH out there. Great athlete, suspect human if you value trust factor. Not sure about the referenced family thing, but that trust thing COULD be a factor there for some of the three of them. Bet it comes out.

Sounds like this dude has some speed and athleticism, and though young already has a bit of high-level experience and production. This staff seems to be able to find and polish a Hadden or a McCoy as needed; may Hood be the next one of them.

Volnation is an interesting paradox. The only place I can think of where one grown up would offer a moral lecture to other grown ups about not making moral lectures.
The lead singer of Green Day does it quite often

Good.. we need experience in the secondary.
How do define experience?

The top programs in NCAA football have been fortifying their already strong rosters with high level/caliber transfers but TN goes middling.... Interesting dichotomy .

Plus if you grew up in GA, winter in CO would be brutal.

ON3 lists him at 6.1. I would go with their info over the OP. I do believe he was 5.11 as a high school prospect. I am sure he grew two inches.

“Just the culture and the history about it,” Hood said. “I mean, they got a lot of great players to come through here and just the culture. And also I like the genuineness of the coaches. Coach Heupel, coach ET, coach Banks, coach Martinez, all of them. I mean, they’re just all genuine. I just really like what they had to say about the university.”

Tennessee targeted Hood the moment he entered the portal. They see a player who can blossom at Tennessee with three years remaining...“They said they think I’m very versatile,” Hood said. “I mean, I’m also really athletic. They said they think I’m really athletic. I agree. Like, I think I’m probably one of the most athletic guys in the portal and in the college game right now. I also think, that taking their coach, I could be one of the best in the country.”

I guess he thinks we think that he thinks we think he's athletic 🤔

Well we didn't make him leave Colorado. He's gotta go somewhere, why shouldn't we be happy about a good get. Doesn't mean we are happy with free agency.
