Colorado transfer CB Colton Hood commits to UT

I still feel it is destroying college sports PERIOD. It has removed the term VFL from the list once they transfer. No athlete at UT should ever be called a Vol For Life, unless they at least end their career here.
And even then, if they start and end their career here it will be because we gave them enough money to keep them from leaving. I don’t think that term has much merit at this point outside of walkon players.

Well, I doubt anyone in the program will forget guys like Matthews and Gibson rattling NIL cages and what team Nico did. No way you count on Gibson to honor his deal. Once a flight risk, always a flight risk. College ball is now a mercenary sport. Until this change, you embrace the rules of the game and play it. It's why guys like Kiffin and Pearl are perfect for this new era of college sports. No guarantee our other corner will be ready to go either. I say go grab another one.
Exactly.

Considering the frequency of transfers both in and out in this era, I'm nonplussed. Here today, gone tomorrow. Even the part about "3 years to play." Why does that even matter? Just two additional years of transfer opportunities. Maybe he'll stay, maybe he won't. If he's really good, he's gonna get expensive fast, so. Yippee, I guess.

Don't hate the guy or anything. Just don't have any emotion about it.

My wonder is about the "package" of family that Hood apparently alluded to on X (I don't have X) in his goodbye to CO.

Colton Hood appears to be talented but if he comes with a less than SEC ready RB and LB?CB?, I'm not sure if the deal is good or not.

What is puzzling is all the vitriol for Thomas, "He's just chasing money" "Eff him" "They'll go anywhere for 50 more dollars" etc

but not a word about Colton Hood hopping from Auburn to Colorado to UT, certainly not loyal to any team and likely getting a nice pay bump to come to Knoxville.

"We needed to get rid of that mal content" Thomas while we need a serial hopper like Colton Hood.

While we'll be "all in" on him as long as he's here, as soon as he leaves he'll be part of ruining of college football again. It's comical.
You are true about the Janus fans on this site, but I detest the entire NIL and transfer portal system as it currently exists. If NIL was run as it was originally presented, it would have been fine. I have no problem with athletes being able to earn some decent spending cash by setting up deals. I do not like paying young people that have yet to mature ridiculous amounts of money with no requirements to meet to "earn" it. The transfer portal is far worse than the worst pro sport free agency system. I will support whoever takes the field when they take the field for UT, but that does not mean I approve of how they got here.

Ummmm you actually want your corners to have a low amount of tackles. If they’re getting a lot of tackles then they’re giving up a lot of catches…..
That is hilarious! What about the tackles made by the corners that the other guys in the secondary didn't cover? What about the tackles behind the line of scrimmage or near the line of scrimmage when they sometimes help with the run? Not all tackles that corners make is due to them not being a good defender on the guy they are covering, especially in a zone defense!

Short, just like Martinez likes em.
One of the best posts on here in a while. A friend of mine couldn't stand Martinez due to him constantly recruiting short DBs! I do feel like it is an advantage for DBs to be taller due to the taller WRs out there! However, if this guy is 6.1, he is taller than the average DB which is supposedly around 5.11.

When you make it big it’s important to bring the whole Hood with you.

Can he turn his head and look for the ball? Asking for science.
Yes, it would be a question of science. I am sure Martinez doesn't worry about them being able to turn their heads and look for the ball. In my opinion, your post is a spot on post of the day!

It's really more of how humans are tribal for me but it's particularly noticable in sports and leads to very funny behavior. Short of politics and religion, it's the best gold mine of "we good, them bad" material.

As for the players, if the collectives are "bidding up" the market value to insane levels, it's insane not to take it AND be open to another team offering to top your current money. We all know the schools are "suggesting" guys enter the portal or flip their commitment for more money regularly, so it's just there.

It's awful for traditional college sports but that ship has sailed and sunk. There's no going back so my personal coping strategy is to just watch each game for good execution, creative players, thoughtful coaching, etc.

Neither "college" football nor myself will be around that much longer so I am dialed back to the fundamentals.... TODAY who is playing well, coaching well, executing interesting plays, pushing the other team defensively, etc. YMMV

dont act all hollier than thou or stupid - we all know very well what is going on. We love anyone on our team and everyone who leaves it are scum - except those whom we didnt really want, so its ok they go elsewhere to a team we wont play against.

Dont try to act as if you are discovering a new thing or trying to point out hypocrisy. We are well aware of it and dont give a damn about those like you who try to judge it since it is absolutely universal to any fan who actually cares about their team.

We can lament the state of college football while still wanting our coaches to do everything possible to win given the crappy situation.

Not cool to ASSUME everyone is as arrogant and condescending as you are. Most will wait till at least 1) they know his actual cost, and 2) they get feedback on his fall on field production.

It ok for a fan to be hopeful, it is not ok to declare disaster within hours of his declaring.

Volnation is an interesting paradox:

"I hate this free agency with guys transferring all the time. No loyalty. It's ruining college football...."

Upon picking up Colton Hood, who will be on his 3rd school in 3 years, "Great get....."
I'm one of those who doesn't like what we have today with players jumping teams before they ever play a down. But what other choice do we have in the process ? We can stop being fans or welcome new transfers and cross our fingers that they stay until the fall kick off

It's no holier than thou at all. It's actually comical to diss players for jumping now or coaches.

The game is a brothel and we're enjoying our current dates. If we get a new date next year, that's fine too but don't paint it like the old date was trash and the new date isn't.

There's absolutely zero reason to single out a player as any worse or better than the fans who support the system.
I wish it was a classier brothel.

Just think back to 2 or 3 years ago when on this very forum on signing day we'd see " BOOM" and such accolades around any new player who just signed with us. You don't see that today because the player who committed in Dec can de-commit over and over. Two years ago you could half way count on that signed player actually sticking around for a few games. With this mess today, they might switch teams at half time.

Your last sentence pretty much says it all. Don’t like anything about what’s going on but I understand the need to play with the rules we now have. If you don’t, you get left in the dust.

No different here than any other school. If you leave, you’re a dog. If you stay, you’re a saint. Life in the real world.
