There was a point in time when the concept of a deferred payment auto loan to a college student with no credit went from pretty much prima facie evidence of a major violation to a business practice that the NCAA ignores because the car dealer says it is commercially reasonable in his opinion. There was no rule change. One day it might get you the death penalty, then photos come out of the Bama players' parking lot, and it's suddenly commercially reasonable and the dealer says he's not a booster so no harm, no foul. Maybe Bama was super innovative. Maybe someone did someone a favor. And what happened to the Bama players who were trading autographs for suits? I'm not against these sort of benefits for players but it seems like if these things are going to be green lighted the SEC and NCAA should announce ahead of time rather than creating the appearance of impropriety by waiting for a bell cow to get caught with their hand in the cookie jar and then telling the rest of us that it's fair play.
