I heard a former Navy Seal speak a few weeks ago about mental toughness. He said he has taken cold showers for years and felt that it can add mental toughness, no matter who you are or what you do.
I tried it starting monday and have tried to add a minute or two each day. Monday sucked and I only lasted about 30 seconds before bailing. I took a 6 minute cold shower this morning. The last 3 or so was just standing there under the water with my eyes closed and trying to focus.
Has anyone else tried it or challenged themselves in any other way that might hurt a little but benefit the mind?
I've been taking cold showers for over a year. I can't stand the thought of taking a hot shower. It boosts your metabolism helping burn fat, helps with muscle soreness (speed version of an ice bath) and helps you learn to focus and be calm.
I generally start with hot water for a few moments to get wet. Step out of the water and turn it to cold. Wash my hair and face to adjust then step back in to finish. If I have time I will spend a couple minutes focusing on slowing my heart rate.

I want to hit something when that happens. Luckily I treated myself to a big hot water heater last winter, so it doesnt happen often![]()
