Also, it's a lot more painful to get your whole body submerged up to your neck than it is just your legs.

The cure for muscle soreness

I heard a former Navy Seal speak a few weeks ago about mental toughness. He said he has taken cold showers for years and felt that it can add mental toughness, no matter who you are or what you do.
I tried it starting monday and have tried to add a minute or two each day. Monday sucked and I only lasted about 30 seconds before bailing. I took a 6 minute cold shower this morning. The last 3 or so was just standing there under the water with my eyes closed and trying to focus.

Has anyone else tried it or challenged themselves in any other way that might hurt a little but benefit the mind?

I've been taking cold showers for over a year. I can't stand the thought of taking a hot shower. It boosts your metabolism helping burn fat, helps with muscle soreness (speed version of an ice bath) and helps you learn to focus and be calm.

I generally start with hot water for a few moments to get wet. Step out of the water and turn it to cold. Wash my hair and face to adjust then step back in to finish. If I have time I will spend a couple minutes focusing on slowing my heart rate.

Increases testosterone. During the 19th century, many doctors and ministers recommended that young men take baths in cold water to reduce the sin of “self-pollution,” i.e. whacking off. Cold water was thought to extinguish a man’s flaming carnal desires. There was even a ghastly device invented on this principle.

I am voting with the squirrel. There are two things in life that can put me in a rage quicker than lightning. One is car trouble, and the second is running out of hot water

Kinda reminds me of one of those sadistic Japanese games shows where folks were sitting in a semi frozen pond pounding down huge bowls of ice cream.
