I always kind of thought Cuonzo was a guy at a party that came in and sat in the corner. He watched the party for about 30 minutes, and then he stood up in the middle of the room and yelled at everyone for not talking to him and not liking him. I never saw the effort on his part to make anyone like him, so his faux exasperation at not being liked never played well with me. Oh well, that ship sailed.

Did he screw up? Absolutely. But that was then. He's been out of the game up until this year.

If Bobby Petrino can go back to Louisville after doing what he did to them, then I think we could take Bruce Pearl back.

It's not like before him our basketball program was anything, and aside from that one Sweet 16 run, it hasn't been anything since. You watch him like a hawk, and you hire him back, and you let things go back to how they used to be. You saw what he did recruiting wise at Auburn. They even made some noise in the tournament.

I think if you're Dave Hart, and IF Bruce is truly interested, it's the smart move. And you tell Cheek to shove it. The PR team of Bruce and Butch would be amazing for this University.

So my list then would go like this:
1. Bruce Pearl (if available)
2. Rick Barnes
3. Brad Underwood
4. Bryce Drew
5. Will Wade

That's just me. I'd be happy with anyone on that list.

And yes, I know, Hart said he wouldn't hire anyone with a history of NCAA Violations. But at least with Bruce, you KNOW what his history was. There's no secrets, or anything that's gonna pop up. That's my only thinking around that.

3 things: Petrino didn't have $5mil buyout. Petrino wasn't fired. We don't know if there are secrets are not. He's been in the game for a year now, its possible there could be something that would pop up later. Imagine hiring him and 2 weeks later we hear of a minor violation at Auburn, which would end him. That is the most Tennessee thing ever so I could see it.

I don't keep up with Clemson since I left other than talking to a few buddies who still live in the area, every now and then. Didn't like them while I was in school and don't care for them now. If the school hadn't waved my tuition and paid me I never would've gone there. The massive disdain and inferiority complex for the SEC from the fanbase was enough to turn me off. As was my roommate, who was a student manager for the football team, when he came home and cried after Bowden was fired/resigned.

My top choices would be

Wojo - apparently a couple people on here have read somewhere about him being interested - would love this one, especially if he brought his recruits, and he also had Nick Noskowiak committed, and although he decomitted the kid seems high on him

Pitino - just think this would be a good fit for him, and it's an attractive job for him

Could we realistically see either of them coming?

You talked like you were super connected to big time donors. Seems like you're backtracking some. Anyway, you probably shouldn't talk about things you don't know about. The difference between us getting rid of Bowden and you getting rid of Fulmer was that Clemson hit a home run with his replacement and UT struck out....twice, before finally pulling it together with Butch Jones. You guys let South Carolina overtake you in the SEC East....I'm just glad things will be returning to normal soon.

I bet Bruce would pay the majority of his buyout to come back to UT. Would even coach the first year for free too. If I was Bruce I'd call up Hart and say "Look here, I want back in at Tennessee. I'll pay half of my buyout and coach the first year for free. That years salary will pay for the other half of my buy out. I promise I'll be good and won't embarrass you. Please give me this chance, sir".

And then Hart would say "no still too much. I've already hired the manager at McDonalds for 50 bucks a game. He's played 2k before so he knows what he's doing". In all honesty the chances of Bruce coming back are about 1%. A chance but not a good one.

Even if Pearl did offer to do all of that he would probably be rejected. Heck, he could offer to pay his entire buyout and coach the first year for free and be rejected most likely. Can you imagine the fan base finding out Pearl offered to do that and Hart turning it down? They would skin him alive.
