Coaching Search Thread

I've always said that Barnes always underachieved at Texas during the tourney every year. I still stick by that. But if I could trade the years Texas has had since he has been coaching there for the years we have had I would do it in a hearbeat. Do I think he could win us a championship? No. The reason I want Barnes is because honestly he is the most proven coach we can get right now. I'm tired of going after mid major up and comers because that's what we have always done and it's only worked once with Pearl.

What Barnes would do for our program: he would bring stability. I know that doesn't sound exciting but it's what this basketball program needs. Yes there are coaches with higher upsides than Barnes that we could go get but they are also gambles and right now our basketball program cannot gamble. The momentum that Pearl created is fading away and we need someone to come in and bring us back to the tourney every year and Barnes can do that. He can make this job attractive again. Look at what he did at Texas, he put them in a position that Shaka and Marshall are at the top of their list. Yes Texas has money to offer them but so does UT. They would turn our money down because of the state of the program. Barnes can come in and fix that. This is just my two cents. If Barnes says no then I want Coach Underwood from SFA.

Focus and comprehend. Making a 68 team field for a power conference team is not considered a great year.
Your hero did not make the NIT field either. Cal was picked to finish seventh and in the top 60 per the money people. Vegas odds.

Stay tuned.

I "comprehended" your simplistic statement fine, thank you.

Cuonzo's not my hero, though I really liked the persona of the basketball team with him at the helm. And, I will indeed "stay tuned". Very much expect to see Cal in the Dance year after year after year.

It's beyond belief that anyone thinks Cuonzo is better than an average coach.

If Cuonzo was a 5'0" dork and kissed butts like Tyndall did he'd still be the coach. People need a salesman more than they need a basketball coach.

Tyndall did show emotion and passion during games. That's not miles apart from ZO but it was noticeable

I really, really don't care about that. I don't need a coach making a fool of himself to make me like him.

Just coach ball.

Zo overachieved his first year, was average his 2nd year, and was a bull**** charge call away from taking this program as far as it's ever been in his 3rd year.

But as I said, just because he didn't kiss butts and do the ra-ra cheerleader ****, he got ran out of town and we got stuck with a cheater who set our program back another two years.

And I'll bet you didn't know this either, but Zo walked up and down campus getting students to come to the games about 3 hours before tip off. Just because he didn't have cameras follow him around like Bruce and Tyndall, people didn't like him.

Zo also had pearl players to work with and Donnie had 4 returning players and a bunch of recruits to play with

I've heard the opposite. I heard he was a jerk away from the court.

That's because none of Cuonzo's players wanted to play for the guy.

And that roster Cuonzo's 1st year was not good at all. He developed a lot of those guys.

Don't even compare Zo's on campus appearances to Bruce's. Bruce only "had cameras follow him" because he had to make the fan base buy in. The cameras weren't always on Bruce after the initial work he did. ZO wasn't in the cafeteria getting folks fired up. Where was Zo supporting other sports teams actively. To even sit on here and try to put both in the same city much less the same state is absurd and crazy. And I'm not discounting ZO getting kids to come to the games. He had to because students always saw he never bought into the UT atmosphere 100%

He was 100% invested in a fanbase that couldn't stop talking about its' ex boyfriend. Imagine how ****ty that is for a second.

DH may be searching for two bb coaches if the Lady Vols game keeps going in the direction it is going. They have scored 2 points in 8 minutes in the 2nd half. Down by 11.

You think Counzo is better coach than Pearl?

Absolutely not. But I think it was hard for him, and would be hard for anyone in that situation.

We as a fan base have to realize Bruce Pearl isn't here because HE messed up. Not because we just tossed him aside. He isn't the victim. He was awesome, but he screwed us over with the cheating and lies. We need to move on or we will NEVER find a good coach.
