Coaching prediction thread

He's certainly my top choice, but I'm so desperate, I'd happily take Kiffin or raid Coastal Carolina or Iowa St for the new HC. Just can't stomach another miserable season with this staff.
Stock up on pepto.

I would consider moving Osovet from tight ends to QB coach and move coach Niedermeyer back to tight ends. Then I would hire coach Muschamp to be the new ILB coach and defensive coordinator. Then after hiring Muschamp as DC I would be in a position to hire the best D-line coach.

Fire Pruitt and hire Hugh Freeze
Yes ... as much as I wanted to support CJP early on, his insistence, and stubborness on certain things (JG), regardless of the short term outcome, have led me to believe he is coaching not to improve the program but to improve his chances of keeping his job, not a good strategy imo, it didn't work and it won't work and it's cost us prob 2 years

Even if they fire Pruitt, they won’t go after Freeze. They won’t even go after a real up and comer like Chadwell. They will hire some Joe Blow from a directional school and just bury the program even further.

I think we need to have an honest conversation about Jim Chaney

Not sure if he’s a bust or not. It’s hard to open up the playbook when your QBs haven’t been developed at all. He put up some big numbers with Bray at the helm. If Bailey turns out to be a gunslinger I’d be interested to see what Chaney can do.

I believe PF made a gentleman’s agreement on a personal level with CJP. It was 4 years come hell of high water. He’s going to stick with it. Hell and high water have arrived in year three.

I want Hugh Freeze. Make no mistake about it. But for the sake of discussion let's say we can't/won't get him. At that point I think the next best thing to do would be to keep Pruitt and replace Jim Chaney with one of the following:

Kendal Briles
Tom Herman (hot seat)
Kevin Sumlin (hot seat)
Scott Frost (hot seat)
Justin Fuente (hot seat)
Jeff Brohm (hot seat)

If we fire Pruitt, and don't get Hugh Freeze, who are we going to end up with? Probably another up and comer. No thanks. I say avoid the buyout and prepare to make the next HC hire the right hire... meanwhile, continue giving Pruitt everything he needs to be successful. That will go a long way toward convincing the right guy to say "yes".
Why isn’t everyone loving this idea? I don’t feel heard. I’m sick and tired of being oppressed by all of the fascists on this board. You will not silence my voice!

Pruitt is here for another year for sure, as much as i dislike him I think you keep Chaney only because you need continuity next year to have any chance of turning this ship around and i sincerely hope they can, lets face it a coaching change means were three years away from being relevant once again. Fire Weinke, fire Friend, if you could bring in Muschamp as a analyst on defense and get a competent Quarterback coach we might see some improvement. I would love to see Hugh Freeze but its not happening.

that’s a great assessment op. I agree with most of the points. It’s so frustrating Pruitt is all but assured to come back. The buyout is only marginally less next season and there’s almost no way it gets turned around. Once the players and fans stop believing it’s all but over. Recruiting will begin to suffer and the players will check out. Why wait. And to add to the above points...we actually have a really great coach available right now that wants to be here. Who knows if that’ll be the case next year.

Here's what I think the fall out will be after this season.

Pruitt’s going to have to change up the offensive staff. But, who? Chaney is set to make 1.7 million dollars next year. For everyone who says Tennessee is cheap, he was (and may still be) the highest paid offensive coordinator in all of college football. They even paid Georgia $500,000 to get him. So, you fire him, there will be a buyout and then you have to get someone to be the offensive coordinator who can do the math that he’ll be out of a job in a year as well. Good luck finding someone who is anxious to sign up for that. Friend? And I know he’s a disappointment to many, but if I am being honest the offensive line may not be the TVA you all were hoping for, but they’re the best unit on the entire football team and I don’t think that’s even up for debate. If I were him and got canned, I would be livid. Between that and the personal relationship with Pruitt, I don’t think he goes anywhere either. Graham, Martin? Two VFL. My guess is that they are two of the better recruiters on the staff. I can't see any of these other jokers being able to go into a home and sell a recruit on the program, do you? So, that leaves Weinke. Goodbye, Chris. But, that’s really not going to be enough to make any real change. They’ll get rid of Joel Osovet, too.

A little side note. Chaney has been an offensive coordinator for 12 years, 11 in the SEC. The number of years his offenses ranked in the top half, again TOP HALF, of the league…..3 (2012, Tennessee. 2017, Georgia, 2018 Georgia). Eight out of his twelve years as a coordinator, his offenses have averaged under 400 yards per game. O-ver-rated….clap, clap….clap, clap, clap. O-ver-rated….clap, clap….clap, clap, clap. O-ver-rated…..clap, clap….clap, clap, clap.

Change the defensive staff? Who goes? Who do you get? How much cash to get them? After all, how confident are incoming assistants going to be about having a job beyond one season. Besides, there isn’t really anyone to fire here. They already got rid of Brumbaugh and currently only have 3 assistant coaches on defense. Ansley, Felton, and Neidermeyer.

All of these things make it obvious to me that Jeremy Pruitt should go, because all anyone will be doing is re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, but……

Jeremy Pruitt will be the head football coach at the University of Tennessee next year. And next season will be his last season. Hopefully, for Tennessee the crop of coaching candidates will be a good one next year.

Pruitt was never going anywhere this year, COVID or no COVID. Zero wins or 10 wins.

Next year he will be in the full hot seat unless we somehow upset UF and TAMU.

Those of you wanting Freeze this year, it's not happening. However...if Pruitt does terrible next season then I think we have a way more likely of a chance to get Freeze.
